The long story: I've been working on the wife, trying to convince her that we need to do the "great American road trip" in an RV. But in 10 years, I never found one that didn't trigger a gag reflex in her. Until a couple weeks ago, when we passed a very nice GMC (23', I think) towing a nearly matching Suzuki. She was sold on the looks, and I'm all over the construction and engineering (I'm a car geek who likes to turn his own wrenches, so a 35 year old RV doesn't scare me nearly as much as it should).

Anyway, I've been turning over rocks for a few days, looking for JUST the right rig. I've seen some candidates - some with rebuilt motors (or new motors), some with nice new paint, some with great, new interiors (and some in pristine "unrestored" shape). I'm hoping to find one that's got either fairly low miles, or a recently restored / replaced motor, good paint, and a tidy interior (no disco flashbacks, hopefully). I also need it configured in a way that would sleep six (well, two couples and a few small kids), preferably with a rear bedroom configuration (even if it can be converted into a handy dinette).

If anyone has intel on something that will fit my needs, and that's not too far from the Mesa / Phoenix area, I'd very much appreciate it. And heck, if anyone in the area insists, I'll come over and drool over your rig even if it's not for sale (I'll bring the wife to continue the reeling-in process).

Thanks!

Mark,

While you ARE wanting to buy... and this IS the place to buy and sell GMCs and GMC stuff. I think you would be better off posting in the main forum. Due to the way the GMCnet grew, many (maybe even most) readers get the messages e-mailed to them. They never even see this 'side' web-based forum unless someone posts a link to here.

Silly I know.....

Anyway, I quoted your message here, and posted a reply on the main forum. See it here:

Wow... I'm overwhelmed with the help you provided. I've spent a good part of the day looking at the links you included in your other email, and also hitting some local RV dealers just to make sure that there's nothing out there that would come close to a GMC (there isn't). Thanks VERY much for all the help for this wannabee, and I hope that very soon, I'll be sharing in the communal pain / pleasure that comes with owning a GMC RV!

Carl,

Thanks a million - I might just take you up on that some day. I've checked out the photos of your (very nice!) rig, and can only hope to find something that nice. I'm encouraged that there are so many GMC RVs for sale right now, so I am optimistic that I'll find "the one".

Oh, and I hope it's a lot cooler in Tucson than it is here in the Phoenix east valley (supposed to hit 108 today - a lousy day for looking at RVs, to be sure!).

Mark,
The coach you described is The Big Blue Bus owned By Wayne La Mothe (Smitty52 on the net) in Bolton Landing, N.Y.

He is offering it for sale in the price range you described.

I drove the coach across the country 2 years ago. It is clean, in good condition, runs well and has been maintained over the years.

Talk to Wayne, fly to Albany and drive it home.

Thanks, Gene. I've been in touch with Wayne already and agree with you. If his coach was closer I'm sure I'd be crawling under it right now. I do have a good friend only about 50 miles from him so maybe I'll eventually get out that direction. But I suspect he'll have it so long before I can.
