Any one have experience with the Smev 2 burner cooktop? Multiple sellers and various prices on ebay.
I am replacing my counter top and magic chef stove/oven.
Since I'll have a new counter I thought I would change to a drop in cooktop instead of the slide in configuration an install a microwave/convection oven under the counter. I have the oven but still need cooktop before installing counter.
I like the high output sealed burners of the Smev unit. The old Macic Chef took for ever to boil water.
Comments, suggestions please.

Thanks Emery,
Great suggestion; but too late for me.
I already removed the stove and shipped it to Bruce hart in Colorado. And I needed to remove the stove to make room for the micro/convection.

Rob,
Good idea- separating the oven and cooktop. But as with Emery's suggestion, it's too late for me. My stove has already been shipped to Bruce Hart in Colorado. If he see's this thread he can implement Emery's improvement.
Back to your coach. What is the countertop in your picture. It looks like wood with wood edge trim. Is that correct.
My 1975 23' Avion had a wood grained laminate counter top with the typical flat laminate edges.
Yours looks different; like cabinet grade plywood.

Rob,
I have an old album on the photo site called The Joad Coach and the Short Bus.
The short bus is the 23' Avion. There is an interior night photo of the sofa/folding bed.
After removing the cusions the sofa base couuld be unfolded out toward the entry door.
The base was 3{IIRC) hinged sections of 1/2" plywood which when deployed were supported by short wooden legs. The platform was only about 6 inches above the floor. The sofa cushions served as the mattress.
When deployed the bed extended almost the full width of the coach and blocked the doorway.
It was a minor PIA to unfold and refold the bed and to enter or exit the coach with the bed extended.
So, the short answer is the original sofa/bed is not quite like the one in your picture.
I have never seen another 23' Avion don't know if others had the same bed.

It was NORTH Carolina. (Skip the next link if all you want is pictures.)

Pictures I collected: <http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g5604-1975-23-foot-avion.html>
Pictures Richard Sowers drove up to take:

I figure it shouldn't be THAT hard to put a folding bed in a couch like the one Rob linked to. A LOT harder, but would make the layout really work well would be a slide-out on the driver's side.

I tried to find the album but all I can find under gbarrow is some photos of a valve / actuator.
Thanks, you have confirmed what I suspected. I have seen photos of a '23 Avion for sale over in North (or was it South) Carolina and
it appeared that the bed fit your description.
I was hoping that it was a fold out bed as that way you could leave it made up and just fold it away when you arose.
Regards,
Rob M.

Would it work to also stop down one of the rear ones with a smaller orifice? Mine don't regulate well, the valves tend to be on or off, and will creep. If I can use a smaller orifice, I'd heave a better breakfast burner while enhancing the corn burner as well.

There is a solution to the poor performance of the Magic Chef burner.
Drill the front burner orifice with a #68 drill bit to increase the BTU from 5200 to approx. 7500.
This really lets you boil water much faster and is also great for stir fry and other things where you need a hot pan.
Several people did this when I first posted it a few years back and are very pleased with the increased performanced.
If you like spaghetti or other pasta it let you do it in about the same time as on your home stove.
I do not recommend doing the rear burners as that is putting a lot of heat close to the wall.
You can see a picture of the three burners here. Those 3 burners are the same size but look at the difference in the flames on the front one.

The front burner puts out a lot more heat.

Gene,
Yes, we have that cooktop installed. Here is an album I published sometime back.
<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/kitchen-upgrades/p39613-kitchen-upgrades.html>
We like the fold down glass that provides additional counter space. The model we have accepts two pots (a small and medium size) but only one very large pan/pot (which I don't carry in the RV). We have never experienced any problems with heating from this stove. Seems to work well for our needs. They have several models - we have the "teardrop" model. I believe SMEV has been bought out by Dometic. I see them for sale under both names.
We found these as surplus at CoLaws RV salvage near Joplin, MO for around $88.00. The last time we were there, they still had a couple left but they may be gone by now. We also have the matching sink with the fold down lid that we plan on installing.
