Hi Everyone,
A few weeks ago, there was a diagram of the air-bag system floating
around the list. Does anyone have that still? I have my 76 Eleganza up
from Vegas finally, and I need to get the air bag system working. They
are detached from the air lines and I filled them manually to get the
coach up here. When I turn on the switches for the compressor, I hear
the relay back there activating, but I have no voltage to the compressor.
I have 8 million other questions also, but I want to get one thing done
at a time before I put her up for sale. So far, the only things that
don't work are the radio, windshield wipers and this air bag system.
My fuel consumption on this 250 mile trip was just over 5 miles to the
gallon. Woo-Hoo!

The best thing you can do is click on the link below and then download X-7625. Then go to SECTION 4 - REAR SUSPENSION. You will find
21 pages on the Electro Level I System.

Mileage is low - normsl in my experience.. lot of hills, that isn't out of line. If the coach has been sitting, 'tuneup' will improvie it. Include all vacuum hoses in the tuneup.

Vacuum hoses! When my coach got to Tom Hampton's place it was one of the first things he noted. Make sure they are routed properly.

It could have been something simple as to why the "tank valves" were installed.
For example: When picking up my '77 my goal was to just get it home. before taking down off the blocks it had been on for about 5 years, I noticed the connectors at the airbags were plastic. Not wanting to trust the old brittle plastic, I just installed 1/4" tank valves from ACE hardware directly into the airbag. (Actually I used 1/8" with adapters to fit... that ACE (Mohab UT) was out of stock on the 1/4" size.) I still haven't actually tried the Electro-Level (1) system...
With a 1976 you could have either the Power Level (with control knobs/valves) or the Electro Level (control switches) system. Both have a fairly reliable pneumatic height sensor in each wheel well --- with quite a few air lines. (aka possible leak points...)
Rick Denny posted a very good procedure for trouble shooting the systems. I believe it had steps and gave possible issues and fixes for each step. The steps were something like:
1.) Get the airbags to hold air.
2.) Get the system to hold air when on HOLD.
3.) Get the system to self adjust (and not leak air) when in TRAVEL.
4.) Adjust the system to provide the correct ride height.
You can not do something lower on the list without having the steps above it being good.
