As some of you may know by now Ada and I recently got married. She scheduled the wedding and honeymoon around the Dixielander rally in Bean Station, TN with 120 of our closest friends and the Sunshine Statesmen rally in Grassy Key, FL with another 60 of our other closest friends. It was really great and even "Bubba JimK"(our newest Dixielander) showed, but without his GMC. Does JimK really have a GMC? I've never seen it. Anyway, the trip legs form Orlando to Bean Station and then down to the Florida Keys went without a hitch. ANNIE ran great and really did her thing. ....but I queered the deal. Mr. Murphy must of been listening Saturday nite when I mentioned how good the coach ran. Monday around lunch time the bottom cap to the power steering box cracked. JimB and Jeff Sirum told me they had never heard of that ever happening. That doesn't fix the crack and you don't have many options in the Keys. Thank the GMC Gods for Alex and Tony who decided to stay over after the rally. Alex found a "defective" box from a Chevy pickup at NAPA. The manager sold it to us for his core price and the cap was in within 30 minutes. As it was there were two other GMCs that needed work, but we all convoyed out of the Keys together the next morning. Ada and I (and ANNIE) are now home safe and sound with some great memories, and I have a lot of grass to mow this mornning.

HI Jim: The lower cover on the steering box also has the internal stop for the steering. Some truck boxes have this, some don`t. If it was a 1/2 ton truck it probably does. Just don`t crank the steering hard against the frame stop just in case..

Chuck, it's the same size and depth as the cracked cap. The donor is for a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup (I think).

Sandra, we're looking at upcoming rallies and the $$$$$ situation. We'll see.

Jim,
Glad to hear you and Ada got home safely. I was confident with Alex's fix on your steering box. It's great to have people around like that to help us out of a jam.
I stayed only one day At John Pennecamp SP, weather lousy. The coach ran great back to Orlando. Look forward to our next get together.

Regards,
Tony

I'm so upset I could not make the rally!  Mel said it was the best he had been on in a long time, I knew that was going to happen!  Yea, Alex is a wiz at getting things going, after working a farm, you just get good at that sort of thing and man, he really knows the GMC!  Happy both of you had a great driving experience, thats what this is all about, if any of you ever hear the Sunshine Syayesmen are going to the Keys again you should throw in with the group-- I'm just sayn...
