Karen and other,

Jim K. is my dealer, you can call him.  You can also call me, the number on the Fire Fight Products page is my cell phone-- 321-299-5707.

As far as the head configuration, we have changed our recommendation a bit on placement.  Seems that mounting the unit directly in front of the frig side vent does not give it a fair shot at monitoring the actual ambient temp. of the compartment.  That vent being the sir intake for the compartment will skew off the temp.  We now like to see the sprinkler head which is where the monitoring happens just above the top of the side vent.  In that case, the straight head design allows for the head to be as high as possible while still keeping the gauge where you can see it to check the system from time to time.  So my recommendation is the straight head design.

The number 1 reason for RV fires right now is from the frig so if I had to put an order of importance of the top 3 places for fire measures I would say:

1.  frig.
2. engine  (the motor and trans has so many issues)
3. generator  (runs the least amount of time, many people hardly use theirs but they are still pretty dangerous)
4 (and very important) galley with our $18 unit SS20)

Hope this helps,

Jim Bounds

Hi Jim, I'm trying to figure out how this stuff should be mounted.

You mentioned mounting the fridge extinguisher above the exterior hatch, with
a straight-head SS30. Would that best be mounted vertically or horizontally,
and on a side wall or the exterior wall? Don't know how critical
the orientation and placement on this stuff is.

I looked at your website installation pics and only saw one GMC engine
compartment install. Unfortunately, it just shows the head of the
extinguisher peeking out from the left side of the compartment.
Are there other pics of where/how this is mounted typically?
Would a straight or 90 degree head work in the engine compartment
(instead of the remote system)?

thanks,
Karen
