Hi Folks. I am looking for some suggestions here:

I have a set of stainless steel brake lines which I did not seek, but nevertheless, have. I was thinking about installing them and started thinking about associated tasks. These came to mind:

Brake hoses?

Combiner valve ? would you replace the original? How do you know it is working anyway? Is this a good time to test it?

Pads?

Honestly I'd consider taking the coach to a brake shop for the install but I am finding it increasingly difficult to trust my coach to area mechanics after some bad experiences. Perhaps the Dayton work rally, but I don't want to bite off more than can be done in a day and a half.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Jim

I'm of the opinion, If it ain't broke don't f@^> with it. However, if you have experienced a problem with rusty and leaking lines, they should probably all be replaced.

I understand that some of the ss brake line kits for GMCs don't exactly fit and require bending to install. This can be difficult because the ss is hard and kinking the tubing is a real concern. Additionally, the fittings can be rusted and difficult to remove. Because of these potential problems I suggest that disconnect a minimum of lines at a time so that the coach could be driven with some old and new lines if necessary. With the exception of flexible brake lines, components could be replaced at anytime as they require work that is generally not duplicated in replacing the lines.

Jim,

You are about 50 miles away from one of my favorite GMC shops - Tom Hampton's Grandview Motorhome in Marysviille, OH.

I found him to be trustworthy and knowledgable.

I'd say you are lucky to be so close!

And if you don't have all usable SS lines, Tom does.

Now whether he can split sets, I don't know.

You could sell the lines to me and not have the worry..  :) :)
Seriously, I have the wheel clyinders, and the valve.  Master Cylinder already replaced with new, front calipers redone.  When I finish, it will all be new.
