DIY penetrating oil
Helllllp!
In one place I wrote ATF and acetone, in another, I have PS fluid and
acetone.
OK we all agree on acetone, but which is correct, ATF or Power steering
fluid? Or??????
Thanks,
ronC

ATF is what most people use but since ATF is made of kerosene as the base stock with corrosion inhibitors, rubber swell additives, antifoam additives and friction enhancers I would suggest you use kerosene as you don't need the additives in you application

For many years, they stated ATF for use in power steering systems. (It is effectively hydraulic fluid.) While am fairly sure there are differences between the bottled steering fluid and the different ATF's... for this purpose they are about the same.
Disclaimer: Unless you are talking power steering fluid in some "foreign" cars... like our Audi. It is mineral oil based.
