Does the one-ton conversion result leftover unwanted, unloved OEM hubs?

If so, I'd love to provide a pair with a new home on the front of a 1972 Revcon.

Part of my long term plan to convert the wheels to GMC 8-lug.

Your continued support is appreciated......

Exactly, i serve a purpose here. In the age of political corectness I am a safe target for this group. In stressful times you don't want to give that up.

How many Revcon Owners does it take to change a lightbulb......

That was two years ago and I let the hubs go.

Dave,

As Julia Roberts said to the fashion shop lady in Pretty Woman; "big mistake!"

Don't know what you got for them but JimK requires a core payment of $120 each for rebuilt ones.

By the way if the engineers at Revcon didn't see the need for them why bother.

Unless you think they didn't know what they were doing of course! ;-)

Rob M.

That sort of abuse is precisely why i can't abandon the Revcon for a GMC, if i was in the club who would you pick on?

Anyway, I was just putting it out there, but I'm very patient, they'll come along eventually.

Dave,

That wasn't abuse, I ask the guys here who own GMC's and contradict what the GMC engineers did when they designed and built the GMC
the same question.

Rob M.

well in that case, it's just moving with the times.

I think the Revcon engineers made some pretty good choices given their constraints. To adapt to the five lug toro hubs they chose the beefy Budd five lug on eight inch rim.

But 40 years later it's an orphan and the rear tires are all but impossible to find.

So if i ever get this beast rolling and usable, it would be nice to have more comon wheels on it.

Dave,

Have you investigated the idea of re-rimming the existing wheels?

One of the GMC owners here in Australia took his 16 1/2 inch GMC wheels to a company and they cut the 16 1/2 inch rims off the wheel
hubs and fitted 16 inch rims.

Rob M.

A lot of Revcon guys convert their rims to 16" but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

If you get a blowout and mangle a rim then you need a custom wheel shop to get it fixed.

I'd rather modify the coach so it is easier to support forever.

Hey Dave

1) thanks for the tip to join up here... Lots of cool info here.

2) On the Mangled rim front... Isn't that what the spare is for?

I think I can still do a tire replacement (I did not get lots of choices but there were tires available) so I get to put off solving this problem. YAY.

Custom built rims, however, are pretty cheap if you can tolerate artillery style steel wheels. And once you are hovering over the order form, bumping up your number to build is not too costly. If the goal is getting back up and running in the event of a damaged rim (insert odds as you figure them and value of the lost time) then you could take whatever quantity of spare rims you had made with our treasured, noble and not to be questioned 5x8 pattern Razz and bind them to a pallet with a bottle of wine. You leave that pallet in your garage and when the time comes you call folks back at home and have them meet the Fedex guy for pick up, remove the bottle of wine as a thanks for the help....
