I'm in the process of dropping our current insurance carrier - for a number of reasons!
I'm going with a local State Farm agent, well, for a number of other reasons.
SF won't write an Agreed Value policy on the GMC.
But they gave me the number of another agent/company to try for the GMC - no go either. This other agent put the info into their system to try Progressive, but it came back ACV only.

SO, in the grand scheme of things, who's using who these days to write an AV policy?
As always, thanks for your help

It's very state dependent. In AZ I have agreed value with Progressive. In Michigan I had agreed value with AAA. I recall that Jim Bounds had recommended an agent that would provide agreed value for GMC owners.

I got an agreed value policy from Progressive
two years ago when I bought Money Pit. I put
the value at 10k which covered my cost plus
new tires and $500 over. It may be that I got
the Progressive policy through USAA, but you
may have to have an approved survey value put
on the coach by an "expert" witness to get
more than what I got on mine.

So far, we have had good luck with our Progressive agreed value. I gave them an updated appraisal from Jim K. just a year ago.

John,

I just went around this circle. Several times...
Many agencies are "captive" and can only write policies with the primary carrier. Most carriers have no AV policy protocol.
The two I know that do are Miller insurance group and Allied. Miller seems to be a stand alone underwriter, but Allied is a division of Nationwide. I got quotes from both and studied them ad nuaseum. In my case Allied looked like a little better deal, but I hope I never have to find out.

Of course, the notes are buried right now, but if you search through the old posts, you can find the contact for Miller and the ladies there to talk to. If you don't find Allied, I can go out to the coach and get the paper work and contact and pass it along - In a DAY or so..

I had an appraisal from JimK, that was what was passed to both for quote. I got the appraisal done at DuQuoin, and JimK wired it to me later.
Can you Say Boom....
I called to speak to Jim, I am glad he has a sense of humor.. He explained that his appraisals are based on what it would cost to re-create that coach. When you consider that my coach is just about box-stock and everything works the way it is supposed to, that represents a whole lot of investment and work that work have to be purchased at market rate to reconstruct what you have right now. As is often said here, a dependable coach that is ready to travel will start at about 25K (all at once or on the installment plan).

John,

Here's the company that JimB recommends:

Miller Insurance
Cheryl or Marlene
1-800-622-6347

Tell them you got their info from me (JimB).

The policy is issued by Progressive.

If you have been in the Military you can get agreed value insurance from
USAA.

Regards,
Rob M.

BUT, USAA assigns you to Progressive for RV policies.

And I positively despise the politics of Progressive's owner!

Yes I bit my tongue and went with them, but I had already
non-renewed my Harley's with Progressive and gone to GEICO.

I have an agreed value with National Interstate. USAA sent me to Progressive and Progressive valued my coach at $1600. Yep, sixteen hundred. National Interstate accepted an evaluation from Jim K. and wrote the policy accordingly.

As a point of clarification some agencies in some states that use
Progressive will write agreed value policies others won't.

USAA passed me to a Progressive and for them they WILL write an agreed value
policy, I have an agreed value policy for $38,000 on Double Trouble.

JimB's people WILL write an agreed value policy on Progressive.

Nancy,

I need to do this too. Here is a link to the 'instructions' page on Jim K.'s site:

http://www.appliedgmc.com/level.itml/icOid/490

There is a link on this page to a PDF file of a survey to fill out for an appraisal. I had asked Jim K. if he could do one for me at Shawnee, but he said it would be too hectic there and directed me to this page.

Bob,

Agreed!

I normally call up and insure Double Trouble when I arrive then cancel it
when I leave. No sense in paying for insurance for the 8-9 months I'm not
there.

Before anyone brings it up - I'LL take the risk of it burning to the ground
while in storage.

A couple of years ago I called Progressive direct and when I told them I was
in Texas they would not write an agreed value policy. When I called Millers
and told them I was in Texas they would write an agreed policy.

This year for the hell of it I called Progressive directly again and asked
if they would write an agreed value policy in Texas and they said no. I then
contacted USAA and they referred me to Progressive and then they would write
an agreed value policy in Texas.

It appears that there are more ins and outs to agreed value policies that we
are not privy to.

Regards,
Rob M.

I am in CA. I called progressive after working with Farmers on agreed value for four months. Sadly at then end Farmers said they couldn't do agreed value.

I called Progressive and they said they could not do agreed value. Somehow I got the number od HiSage, in San Diego. In forty minutes I had agreed value. When the policy came it is written by... Wait for it... Progressive. Go figure.

JimK did the appraisal. I like Matt was bowled over at his replacement figure. I had kept track and had about 15,000 less in improvements from his figure. I talked to Jim and he asked how much of the work I did myself. Lots and lots. Then he said, if something happened and I was older or didn't want to donate my time, that's what it would cost. He was absolutely right.

I find that my insurance is as good as my agent. I changed agents last year after 20 years of good service from a fella that retired. After his retirement I was just a "hunk of meat" or so it seemed. For a year I tried to work with the new guy and told him I was going to switch agents if he did not come around. He did not come around. I interviewed prospective agents and found one I felt would be on "my side" if I had problems. Bottom line, I kept Progressive and gave him an updated appraisal from Jim K. I can not control who does what with the money I give them. So, I will keep Progressive as long as they are treating me the way I think I should be treated.
John, do you have a local agent?

Dan,

Yes, the (new) SF agent and her staff seem to be very upbeat and responsive - maybe they all are until you sign on the bottom line (of your check)!

Thanks to all for your responses. I'll get in touch with who you mentioned to get the coach covered.

After several suggestions from a few GMCers, I decided today to try USAA for my daughters the new Honda Fit.

I have been with State Farm for 38 years and my daughter Heather has been with them for 16 years. State Farm quoted her $1200 per year on the Honda. I checked with USAA and included one of my Blazers along with her new Honda.

The total for the two was $864. I'm going to sign up tomorrow and later this year I'll move my GMC to them.

Unlike other imsurere, USAA presumes you to be a good driver until otherwise proven, nearly every other insurer sets their rates presuming that you are a bad driver.

As a 50+ year member of USAA, I can assure you that
USAA will assign your RV policy to Progressive.

I don't like them for political slant reasons, but I
was able to get AGREED VALUE policy on Money Pit/Pig.
The latter name is what my wife of longer than USAA
membership (by about two months) gave our coach!
