I will be giving a seminar on six wheel alignment at the upcoming GMCWS Casa de Fruita rally. Rear camber is very important. It should be set to 1 to no more than 2 degrees tire in at the top to prevent the rear end from over steering in a hard corner. Do not allow rear camber to become tire out at the top as that will really effect handling in bad ways. All four rear wheels should run frame parallel (zero toe). If both wheels on one side are off by the same amount you can correct that by shimming the bogie mount. If only one is off, then that bogie arm is bent and will need to be bent back. GMCWS has purchased a DIY alignment kit for use by the members. You can check all six wheels on your coach very precisely on any level parking pad in 30 to 60 minutes. You may be surprised to learn that your coach may never have been properly aligned no matter how experienced the alignment shop! Come to the rally for the full scoop and lots more.

I think most of the variations and conflict could be resolved by setting rear camber close to 0. Of all of the suspension threads I have read the only mention of setting the rear ride Height.
I am curious of camber and toe settings for the rear suspension that were made during recent four way alignments of our coaches. Anyone have a before and after printout with readings? I suspect that toe and camber go untreated unless grossly out of position due to the work involved to loosen and re position the bogies.

Where can I hope to get this type of alignment work done? Is this something
we could expect a truck shop to do, or one of the major RV shops?
I'm afraid this is beyond my humble capabilities and/or
comprehension..........
And, with my beng in Indiana, I don't think I will be coming to the CASA
rally :p
Thanks for the guidance.

There is a place in Portage on US20. Right now my brain is asleep. I'll give you the name as soon as I remember it.
I just remembered. Brown Tire in Portage. Several GMCers have gone there.

Give them a telephone call. I have never been there myself, but I have sent a few people there and have never received a complaint back.

Ken,
Bad new on the Brown Tire connection. I did call them and they said they do not work on GMCs. I mentioned your referrals and the guy I talked to did a Sgt Schultz and said he knew nothing about that.
So, we're still looking..........

Wow. I sent someone there last year. He was staying at the Indiana Dunes State park in Chesterton and just ran over one morning. Did you call Brown Tire in Portage? They have more than one location including one is Valparaiso.

Ken,
I did talk to BT in Portage. Could be I got the village idiot on the phone. I'll try it again and ask for the manager.
We talked about the Valpo shop and he said they are not equipped to do alignments on large vehicles.

I do not get to Portage very often. The next time I'm up that way, I'll stop and ask what's going on.
After looking at several different options across several months Heather finally settled on Honda Fit. We picked one up with 13,000 miles on it last week. I never heard back from those people in SBN that had the Focus. We feel this was a much better choice. The automatic is also towable 4 down but I doubt we will tow it.
Now I need to find another one for me. The only complaint I have is it does not have automatic headlights.

I just got off the phone with Brown Tire Portage and they said the man who would have done the GMC alignments is no longer there. So, they do not attempt the alignments any more.
