Thanks Carl. I did ask JimK, but maybe it was too dumb a question.
The manual wasn't much help on the issue.
Since I just want to stick with a 3.07 (we already have the 3.5 power drive),
think I'll try to find a good core to have rebuilt with limited slip added.
Pretty sure I can pull and reinstall the final drive as a whole,
but doubt I can do anything sensible with the innards.
Ah well, the ever growing wish list...
thanks,
Karen
> Again, I'm not an expert on anything here, but I don't think there is a way to add the limited slip components to the differential carrier without removing the carrier from the housing. Some aftermarket "lunch box lockers" can be added to a carrier in certain conventional drivetrain axles on four wheel drives, without removing the carrier, but most require the ring gear to be removed in order to access the pins that hold the diff gears in place. I suspect the differential needs to be completely dis-assembled to install the limited slip parts. Again, check with Jim K. I don't believe these components are available from any other source anyway.

Either way, I wouldn't see any way to do this in the vehicle. Bottom line, the FD does need to come out to accomplish this.
