CPAP users,
My wife has the problem and had much difficulty. She's had problems adapting to the CPAP machine and is having better luck with something new called the Provent SR Nasal Device. (proventtherapy.com). It's a patch that goes over each nostril and simulates the effect of the CPAP machine. It might be an alternative for those times when you don't have power available. It's a prescription item.

While this may work for many, sleep scientists are finding there are some of us who need CPAP machines simply because we don't have sense enough to keep breath while asleep, not because of obstructions. Similarly, I sport a Pacemaker because my heart tends to slow and stop while asleep. Makes for interesting events when left unattended.   : )

Try to convnce her to use the CPAP, it can truly be lifesaving. My Respronic Remstar has a 12 volt optional cable that allows me to use it in the coach if I don't have 120 volt available.

She should try different masks till she finds one she likes. I couldn't get used to the nasal units, but love my full face Mirage Quattro mask. You have to find the one that works for you.

I'll second (or third, or fourth) that. I had (note the past tense) a friend/co-worker who had a CPAP and just didn't want to be bothered wearing it one night. It was his last night. This is not a condition to be casual with the corrective action.

I wouldn't be without my CPAP, great nights sleep. Last fall we were camping
and our batteries crapped out, worst nights sleep of my life without it.
