I'm in the process of refurbing a 76 Glenbrook and found the PO stripped the screws holding the closet latch in the door. I managed to get the latch off, but one of the screw holes already has a drill bit snapped off in it!!

I need a new latch assembly. Are they still available and if so from whom?

You might try Jim Bounds at the Co-op. We got used cabinet doors he had left after a renovation.

I got them used from GMCRECS, but they are gone. They bear a striking resemblance to the galley latches in older Boeing 737 runway sweepers.

I will try Jim at the COOP. I found the latches were made by an aerospace latch supplier on the west coast and they still make a very similar latch but I can't find a retail source.

Stay tuned, I'll fill in the blanks when I finally find one.

Dodged the need for a replacement through the judicious use of a Dremel with cutoff wheel and some 5 minute epoxy.

Sliced off the threaded boss on the back of the latch (including the cross threaded 10/32 screw remains) with the trusty Dremel. Epoxied a new 10/32 nut on the back using a washer to create the same height as the old threaded boss. Siliconed the threads of a 10/32 bolt to use as a locator. Waited about half an hour, extracted the locator bolt and voila a fully functional latch again.

Necessity, the mother of invention once again.
