I've always had a tiny trans leak that I couldn't find. A mechanic changed the transpan gasket and charged me out the ying yang. But that didn't solve it. Its more of a seep then a leak. No noticable amt drips but a tiny amt that collects dirt. Today while changing my hoses I noticed the top of my trans is all dirty. Looking about I saw a place the was a little damp. I read the parts book (yea Im a slow learning but actually broke out a book before I asked the question!) and it was called a trans vent. Has anyone a suggestion to making the vent less stubby
(mine has some sorta loose fitting cap on it, so if it does vent more air will come out vs a trans seep?

That is the dreaded vent cap that allows trans fluid to leak onto the exhaust, possibly leading to a fire.

There is/was an angled piece available from JimK that solves the problem, though others have used a small rubber L shaped fitting that can be attached to a hose to vent the excess fluid to a safer location.

You can:

1) remove the OEM vent fitting
2) tap the hole to 1/8" pipe
3) screw in a 90 degree fitting
4) connect a hose to the fitting and run it over to the side of the coach

When you tap the hole coat the tap with grease and do a few threads then
back the tap out. That will minimize the amount of schworf that falls on the
chain. That's how Ken Frey installed the fitting in Double Trouble.

Rob M.

Damn!

I've been working all day and my brain is half dead!

When tapping the hole tap a couple of threads then take the tap out, clean
the grease and schworf off the re coat it with clean grease. Repeat this
until you've tapped the hole deep enough to accept the 1/8 pipe fitting.

Rob M.

What is causing the vent to puke fluid? I've never even seen a mild film around there.

I'd not say puke at all! lol Slightest of weeping. I'm guessing its kinda like a crank case vent but for the trans. As air gets forced out some of the vapor has trans fluid the vapor goes bye bye but the leaves behind the trans fluid. But who knows!

I wasn't refering to your post but I have read accounts of substantial fluid loss resulting in fires???? Catch chambers and bottles???? That sounds more like a signal of impending transmission failure than routine weeping.

I just keep a bunch of old socks in between the body and the trans to soak up the flammable stuff as I'm tooling down the interstate.

That was a good warning, most would of read what I wrote and not gotten the gist of it. If your using old socks make sure they you just use ones where the washer and dryer ate the other one. Hence its not a actual pair. And when they get full of trans fluid don't toss them in the hamper, make sure you wash them in bleach, and tumble dry on low. PLEASE DON"T use fabric softener, if you do then the next time you use the old socks to soak up the highly flammable trans fluid the fabric softener can impede how much fluid can get sucked up.
PS: I also wrap my rubber fuel lines that run right on top of my header in socks. It keeps them cooler, and when they break down and start to leak they don't leave drip marks in the drive way.

When i bought my palm booch manny drove 2 thousand miles and put in a new trans and left the

automatic cruise control off, which saved my life i am sure, i found that he had taken this little cap off

and put a small bent pipe like tub that runs off to the drivers side about 4 inches after i had read about 2 thousand pages

and found this on the net and he stated i already put that on hav'nt you looked and he stated to put

a hose on it, i found a hose that fit on it and lead the hose off the drivers side. I have not put a bottle on the end as yet.

THen i thought i would put some sock on the end of the hose to soak right next to the hot pipe and break the tube off and due crack.

I had not looked until manny told me about it and it is under the floor at the back of the motor hatch step, it is hard to find even if you know it is there.

manny saved my life again with this pipe. thank you manny, since you saved my life i have to live with you till you die. I learned this from grasshopper.

I had not seen the gmc for it was in the shop, i kept notes, many ben franklin notes and found it latter. I want to thank manny for telling me

what the buzzing noise was that i spent the whole day trying to find, it was the door buzzer being open i thought i blew up the engine.

warm Regardless mickey

No some people are just so super smart they don't take to jokes easily. They aren't always the life of the party, but they do add a lot to the conversation.
