I buried this in a different thread, and thought it might be interesting enough to re-post.

Has anyone read Jim's Daily Pose where he talks about new aluminum gas tanks? He notes that they hold an extra gallon, but mount up just as the originals do, and there is a drain plug on the bottom. I'm wondering if this would help, hinder, or do nothing for vapor lock. At once it seems that a highly polished tank bottom would reflect heat, but the aluminum would better conduct ambient heat to the fuel. (Not that the steel tanks were great insulators!)

Since they are new construction I also wonder how expensive it would be to put another layer of aluminum on the bottom as a kind of heat shield.

Just a thought. My electric fuel pump seems to have helped me avoid vapor lock.
