Dave,

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Ain't modern communications wonderful? I just called the seller. The
engine's been in parts for years. A friend had it in his pickup when he
wrecked it. They drove the truck to the seller's home where his son tore
the engine down to make a "racing engine" out of it. Nothing more was done
to it. While the seller claims no mechanical expertise, he went out and
examined the crank; it sounds as if it's OK -- at least the thrust surface
is smooth.

He's going to hold it for me until this weekend when we'd already planned
to visit our daughter 10 miles away. No likee, no payee.

Now, my quandary is whether to go on with the planned Eldorado engine pull
on Wednesday. I think I will because I have reason to believe there will
soon be a run on these engines. Might as well start laying in spares
while/when they're cheap, just like the rest of the GMC.

This afternoon was a tiring one for my antique body: I started right after
lunch, at about 12:45, preparing the drive train for removal. When I quit
at 4:15, the only things left to do are install the gantry and hoists, hook
up to the engine, remove the rear mount bolts, and drop the drive train. I
could have completed the job in about another hour, but the gantry
installation is really a 2-man job, so I decided to wait for the yard man
to help me tomorrow morning.

Again, Thanks, Dave, for monitoring, FROM ALBERTA, my neighborhood sources.
:-)

You might want to keep this link handy, in case that doesn't work out.

Mike,

Since Jaxed Mash had to quit listing Craig's List, I've been using
http://www.searchtempest.com/

But I hadn't used it today so I missed the new listing Dave found for me.]

Incidentally, since you're in MI, you might be interested in this one in
Shelby Twp for $600:

8.2L (500 ci) V8 and matching TH400 trans from 1970 Cadillac Eldorado.
Vehicle was driven home and parted out 16 months ago. At that time I
recorded video's of the engine running and various steps in the process of
parting out the vehicle for credibility when buying this engine/trans.
There were no known rebuilds or internal modifications to either engine or
trans. As shown in the video, the only aftermarket accessory was a 1000 CFM
carburetor. That aftermarket carburetor was sold, however, I found the
original carb which was sitting on a shelf for last 25 years.
Motor and trans have been covered and kept indoors since it was parted out.
For an extra $50, you can have a set of universal motor mounts to install
this engine in a different vehicle. David 586-354-8780

Thanks Ken, but since the 455 is still running strong, I'm not looking for a motor at the moment.

Jaxed Mash still lists craigslist but they go through 3taps to get around the stop order they got from craigslist. You have to do a little cut and paste though to get to the craigslist listing.
