Hi, Anyone thinking of staying in Morro Bay on Monday night April 23 prior to going up to Casa de Fruta Tuesday morning?

Thanks

Probably not.

But, are you planning to drive up PCH from Morro Bay? I've driven it many times in both directions but never in the GMC.
Have you ever stayed at Bay San Luis/Avila Beach? Another good place to stay and only 3 miles off Hiway 101.

Gary,

Look on Google Earth for Avila Beach. You will see 3 piers; the most southwesterly one is the Port of San Luis public pier. Adjacent to the pier parking lot and boat launch you will see 10 -12 motorhomes backed in perpendicular to the entrance road.
Those are full hook-up sites operated by Bay San Luis. On the other side of the entrance road back torward Avila you will see a dozen or so motor homes parked parallel to the street overlooking the beach. These are no service spaces that are marked and rented by Bay San Luis. If you stay there don't take a space at the intersection of the road coming in from the west. That is the entrance to Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant. Some traffic throughout the night.
Beyond the beach front parking back toward Avila you will see 10 or so coaches parked on top of a small hill across the entrance road. These sites are also full hook-up.

There is a dump station across the road from the beach.

I have stayed at Bay San Luis many time over the years. There is no way to make a reservation(that I know of) but I have never failed to find a space; but I have never gone there on a summer holiday weekend. You might contact Port of San Luis to see if there is any way to make reservation.

Payment is made by envelope drop in pay station; like forest service camp grounds.

The port/pier has 3 restaurants and a fresh fish market. There are clean public restrooms and pay showers by the boat yard at the foot of the pier.
Avila Beach also has resturants.

Probably too much information. But if any one is traveling 101 this is a great place to hang out for over night or a few days.
The beach is uncrowded and there is always something interesting to watch on the peir or at the boat yard.

Try it you'll like it.

Gary ....

On the way to the last Fruta rally, we stopped at Harris Ranch on the I-5. It was dry camping but a very nice restaurant, great steaks. Several other GMCs were there.

Harris Ranch is near Coalinga, leaving about a 2-hour drive in the morning to get to Hollister.

I think we'll head up this way again (easier and faster from Pasadena), and come back by way of Morro Bay when we'll have more time.

Fin,
Yes, I've stopped at Harris Ranch many times but not camped there. I think
we are going to go to Avila. There are 4 RV areas to park very close to the
beach. Probably leave Sunday and go to Avila, then Monday to Morro Bay, then
Tuesday a short drive to Gilroy. However might just go from Avila to Gilroy
on Monday and arrive a day early. I would leave Monday but I dread pounding
traffic all the way through LA on a Monday. When are you leaving?

My new knee is working fine.
Replace Feb. 21, full range on March 21.
Now to get the calf muscle back up to speed.
Howard
