Try removing the damper and then drive it.

I have asked this question a couple of times in the past: Have never gotten a good response. I'm sure some others must have had this experience.
Over the past few years I have replaced everything in the steering system except the power steering pump and the steering damper.
My coach handles great now and the only complaint I have is that it is somewhat harder to turn than other coaches that I have driven. Harder than I would like. I have driven other coaches that require less effort than a Csdillac. None that I have driven require as much effort to turn as mine.
I can live with it as is but I would prefer to turn with less effort.
Any suggestions????
Thanks!!

Here are my guesses:
1)Something binding or not greased. Do all your parts have fittings and are they greased?
2)Someone over adjusted the steering box.
3)Pump has low output OBTW do the wipers work normally?
4)Too much positive caster? OK never mind that as very unlikely unles you have 4 offset bushings installed.
5)Are you sure the column bearing at the bottom is clean and greased? That one attracts dirt easily.
6) is the ball bearing coupling at the top of the intermediate shaft greased with Synpower as they tend to bind with lesser greases.

The power steering effort is determined by the spool valve in the gear. They are calibrated in inch pound increments and are available in ranges from at leat 15 to 20 or inch pounds. my guess is that the gear you installed has a spool valve calibrated on the high side. It takes a lot of friction in components "below" the gear to increase effort, but it's possible if something is almost bound up. Another less likely possibility is inadequate pump flow.

Years ago we use to use about a tablespoon of Shaler Rislone as an additive in tight power steering pumps. You might try it, it won't hurt anything.
