I fired up the fridge for the first time last
night and this morning freezer was below zero
and the fridge box was at or about 28 degrees.
Disconnected AC power and switched it manually
to Battery/DC and went for propane. When the
propane filling was complete, the "dial" lights
on the control panel were off and I could not
turn the fridge back on at all.
It's been on shore power here at the house for
over two hours and still no power on.
Any ideas out there?

Sounds like you have lost your house battery. The Norcold needs 12 volts in order to run in any mode. I would check for a popped fuse that is between the Norcold and the battery.

If I use ZDDP in a new car - will the tappets go flat?

Mine needed tapping on the relays on the control board at the bottom rear of the icebox. Worked fine after that. Schematics and maintenance manuals were all on the web when I went looking. When I got home, I pulled the circuit board, and uncovered the relays and burnished the contacts on them.
