When the coach is turned off with key removed, is the combiner light suppose to stay on? There are two lights, one for overload and the other for combined. The combined light is staying on and its been over an hour since I turned the key off.

I have one battery up front and one in the generator compartment on the 77 ex Palm Beach. I installed the Yandina late last year using the isolator. One lead to the top connector and one lead to the bottom connector. Black wire to ground. No other wires attached. I think someone told me the middle connector is to the alternator.

Installed per the picture in this link.

Thanks for the help!

Yes that is normal. The combiner reacts to the voltage on the system. If the voltage is high enough, indicating charging, then the combiner closes, the green light. When the charging system shuts down the battery voltage remains high for a while so the combiner stays closed. After a while the voltage will slide down a bit and the combiner will open, green light off. How fast this happens depends on the minor loads on the system, the temperature, and how high the charging system was set. If you want the combiner to open sooner turn on the headlights for a short time. That will kill the higher battery voltage, called surface charge, quickly.

I thought it closed the relay at 14V or greater on either side. I have one and that's how mine works. There is a slight delay for it to latch but have not noticed an unlatch delay. If 12.7 is 100% charged, that's still a way's under the 14v. Having the 2 paralleled alone should scrub of any surface charge. You do not have the coach on AC right now right? even though key is off? If you do, of course the green light should be one. I know, thank you Captain Obvious.

Nope - my experience is on the PD charger. When I kill the charger by unplugging the coach the combiner takes a while to open. How long I'm not sure but the mentioned hour seems about right. I have no load, other than radio memory, on the system. Any load such as any lights, interior or exterior, will quickly cause the combiner to open. I don't remember what the specified voltages are and I have not measured my system voltages.

Make sure the ground wire is grounded to the coach--and to a good ground
that both batteries are also grounded to.

It's not uncommon for a battery to retain a high-voltage surface charge for
a good while when there is no load. The surface charge might be 13.6 volts
or so. That's enough to keep the combiner combined. But the combiner seems
to me enough of a load to bleed off the surface charge after a half hour or
so, so your hour-long hold surprised me a bit.

Have you measured the voltage at those two isolator terminals? If either as
at 13.2-13.3 volts or higher, the combiner will stay combined. If the
voltages are lower and the combiner stays combined for an hour, then it's
time to give Yandina a call.

prevent chattering" Denney

I have an IOTA and notice (also in a previous discussion) a spark when I re-attach my house battery neg after disconnecting for storage or after doing electircal things where it should be disconnected first for servicing. The IOTA is of course paralleled to the house battery. One would think this is a parasitic drain and try to trouble shoot it, but it does not drain the battery. SO... we have decided it's some sort of momentary draw only... whether that be a cap, relay, or semicondutor I don't know. So your results may vary on Yandina relay release time, I suspect largely to do with the type of smart converter you have. Next time I'm with my coach I'll time this out with full batteries to confirm.

John--I have an Iota as well and experience the same thing. Many PD owners also report the same condition. I'm convinced it is a capacitance issue not necessarily related to the converter but rather the many systems on line.

I don't own one but if it has any form of Electrolytic Caps in it, a spark is perfectly normal.

should be ok, just says both batteries are up to charge.
to make sure turn on the head lights, and the combiner should go off soon
