We just returned from our winter sojourn south, about 3500 miles in all. Our 78 Royale rear lounge did its normal great travel machine thing. Nary a complaint and only a couple of minor issues that were quickly resolved thanks to Manny T and Steve F. We bogged out of Oregon just ahead of a couple of bad winter storms back in mid January. Met up with the GMC group in Quartzite for some fun fire pit times and a bunch of junk browsing.
From there we met my brother in his sob in Ajo for a run down to Puerto Penasco, Sonora, MX for a few weeks of beach fun. Great weather and really safe feelings with lots of Federal troops who have done a good job of chasing out the druggies. Patrol boats in the harbor, helos overhead, 4 runners on the beach and Humvs with twin big ones patrolling the town. The MX government is also finally putting some investment money there as well. The downtown streets were being paved, new sidewalks, median landscaping in many places and lots of smiling shop owners waiting for the tourists to return. Playa Bonita RV park was about half to two thirds full although we had no trouble getting a site right on the beach from the third day on.
Once in southern AZ I noticed one of the cv joint boots had rubbed on the Lower A arm ball joint mounting bolts on my one ton front end and broke, so I asked Manny to ship a new one to Steve F's place in Sierra Vista, AZ. It turns out that like so many other auto parts, the boot maker is putting different boots into boxes with the same par number and the one I had on that side was just a bit too big so it rubbed. The new one was the correct one and it fit fine. A big THANKS go out to Steve and Nancy who could not have been more hospitable and to Manny T. who made sure the right parts were waiting for us there when we arrived. My brother needed some work done on his coach and Steve lined him up with one of his sources who did a great job and charged only the friends and family rate for their work.
As we were just ready to pull out Steve offered the use of his dump station and wouldn't you know, my maserator decided to quit at that very moment. So, off to Steve's rv parts source to order in a new one. While we were waiting for it to come in we were invited to join Steve and Nancy's neighbors for a really fun BBQ evening. And, the GMC "parts store" (AKA, Steve's garage) opened up and before you know it we were chocked full of stuff he no longer needed.
We then went on back to Ajo to meet up with the GMCSJ group for a fun rally there. To thank Steve and Nancy for all they do and have done for the whole GMC community and for what they did for both my brother and me, we gave them a surprise iMac at the club meeting. Steve has been on a steep learning curve ever since!
Back and forth across AZ both ways, more family fun and we just pulled into Medford today in time to learn that our 42 year old niece was delivering her first child. Since daddy is from a catalog (mr. Right never showed up) we are the designated other grand parents. Sharon is going nuts.......
All this great stuff made possible by our magic mystery machine that has been so very reliable transporting us all over NA with nary a complaint and hardly ever an issue. We will do a seminar on how we prep ourselves and our coach for long distance travel at the upcoming GMCWS rally in April. Hope you all can make it!

Glad to hear that you had such a great trip. It was good to get to know you better at the Saguaro Jetset rally in Ajo.

Wow, what a great trip, and you'll never get an encore like that again!
It seems to me that your "Grandbaby" may know a few miles in that GMC before high school. She is a cinch to ace woodshop!
You and Sharon have put together a beautiful coach and made it as reliable as those garish 40' diesel pushers. I've kept a few notes from Ken Henderson regarding his time with the $200k machine. My favorite is:
"...when we had the new 40' pusher we'd attend the cocktail parties at rallies and stand around listening to the manicured guys complain about how much money they'd spent having their coaches maintained.
At the GMC rallies, we attend the happy hous and sit around listening to the guys with greasy nails brag about all the work they've done on their coaches.
Somehow I seem to fit in better with the latter group. :-)"
And as Dan says - Life is good in a GMC.
