Greetings, GMCnetters! I'm Sean, and as of two days ago my wife and I
are the proud owners of a 1973 Painted Desert :)

We picked it up yesterday in El Paso, TX and and survived our maiden
voyage back to our home in southwestern NM with only one incident -
engine lost power and died on the uphill climb out of the city. I was
only about 10 miles from the dealer, so I called him for ideas, and he
let me know that sometimes the GMC's won't downshift automatically, so
I need to drop speed and downshift manually when I hit a long climb.
Armed with that bit of info, we were able to get rolling again and
made it home safely.

This is our first motorhome, and we're excited about the prospect of
fixing it up and doing a bit of travelling! I'm glad to see that
there's an active mailing list - I'm certain we're going to have some
questions along the way.

Anyway - just wanted to say hello :)

Welcome to our group. You can get any information you need right here. Where in SW NM are you? We winter in Duncan, Az. just north of Lordsburg.
Have fun. Most every part you might need will be available to you from our vendors.

As Dan said, welcome! We will be traveling I-10 through Lordsburg, Deming, and Las Cruces, then up 70 through Roswell, next week, on our way to the GMCMI convention in Shawnee OK.

There is an active club, The GMC Saguaro Jetset, ( www.gmcsj.com ) in Arizona, with a few NM members. You are welcome to check out our website and join us as guests, or become members, any time.

You have come to the right place for help with any issue you may have with your new toy. Our vendors keep coming up with new products and improvements to help us keep these coaches on the road. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Hi neighbor! We're in Luna County outside of Deming - plenty of parks and other places to camp out here, so we'll have plenty of little trial runs as we fix it up and eventually take an extended trip Smile

Great. There is another GMCer in Deming. Also a very active one in Las Crucez. Arizona is full of Gmcs, as is Texas. Good to have you here.
Watch I-10 next week. There will be some coaches heading to Ok. for our convention.

Sean,

Welcome to the GMCnet and congratulations on the new GMC.

Is your Painted Desert 23 or 26? We love to see pictures...

you need to talk with tranny manny, about your transmission.

He is the best in the west by test try the rest and come back to the best.

ask him what to do about the transmission, he is the best....

welcome i am new here as well and the jokes are worth it alone. mickey :-)

This is sort of like an apple store for the gmc.

go to the genius bar for help here. Ask anything and bingo, lots of help.

good luck~!

Sean,

Welcome to the group/family/cult/asylum....
Have you contacted the registry to make sure your current information is included?

If you do not have all the manuals for everything, get them and carry them. That way if you have a problem you can't figure out, with the help of someone with more experience and the required documentation there is a much better chance that you can get it straight. You can get the manuals for everything at Bdub's site.

Lastly, (those that know me will be expecting this) you will quickly discover that your new coach is more than just another thing you drive. It becomes much more a part of your life than that. As a waterman, I liken it to the relationship we have with our boats. So, I think it is appropriate to welcome new owners as we would - but with a slight paraphrase.

May the Good Lord Bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Sean and family

Matt

Welcome to the ward. Lots of interesting characters in this wing.

I'm not convinced it was downshifting. Maybe downshifting helped keep the
RPMs up so you avoided some basic starvation caused by the newer formulation
of gas.

Nice looking coach! I would second the recommendation to get the manuals to carry along, could come in very handy in a breakdown situation.

They are available on CDs so you don't have to store the large books that Cinnebar sells ( if they are still available in print). The quality of the photos is much better on the CDs as well.
