At my great peril, I am going to combine two things in one thread, and I am going to ask if anyone is interested in a very nice Brake Buddy that my Dad owns. I am planning on attending the convention in Shawnee, although I will be a mid week arrival, but I could bring this with me. I am not sure this is even allowed but I guess I will find out. I am goign to check ebay etc to determine price. He is NOT going to remove the break away stuff still attached to his Saturn.
Next, my Onan has a new board and new carb. It runs great if I continue to spray carb cleaner into the carb. That is not convenient . So, my next task is to put power to the fuel pump to see if I hear anything. Or....is there some other method of confirming the solenoid opens and the fuel pump pumps?
Thanks.

Jumper pin 5 to 9 and listen for the pump clicking. Simple devices and
easy to take apart and clean. Usually makes 'em work like new.

There is a fuel filter on the bottom of the pump that you can twist off to see if it is full of crap. Also, many people have removed the solenoid. There is some history as to why it is there but removing it has not been a problem and it's just another component that can fail. I'm sure you know about the fuel tank level issue right? (must be over 1/4)

Hi Larry
Bring the Brake Buddy to Shawnee. We have a swap meet and if you price it right I am sure you will sell it.
I have one in my toad and I really like it. Easy to hook up and can be used in any tow vehicle.
Someone had posted that it burned up the brakes on a toad. That could only happen if the pedal arm was set to tightly. I always check my brake lights after hooking it up. If the lights are on then it is too tight against the pedal and the seat must be adjusted back a little bit to release the pedal.
If you have a new carb on your Onan then it probably isn't the carb.
You probably are not getting fuel to it.
The fuel pump sometimes sticks if it hasn't been used in a while. The pump has a piston that goes up and down. You can remove the pump and pour some carb cleaner into it to get the piston to unstick. Sometimes just tapping on the side with a small hammer while cranking it will free it up.
To test it just put a jumper on the Onan Control board terminals 9 and 5. While you have the cover off the control panel also check to see if the fuse is OK.
You should hear the pump run. If it doesn't then it is probably gummed up.
If it runs then you should check the inlet hose to be sure that there is not a crack in it somewhere running from the fuel tank to the pump. If there is a crack then it will suck air and not pull any gasoline from the tank. You can take off the inlet hose to the pump and just put a short hose into a container of gasoline to see if it runs. If it does then something is wrong with the pickup hose. It has to pull from the top of the rear tank. The pipe in the tank is up from the bottom of the tank so that it will stop pulling fuel to the Onan when there is still about 1/4 tank of fuel. That is deliberate so that you don't run out of fuel for the engine by running your Onan when you are camped out in the boondocks.
See you at Shawnee.
If you don't get it running prior to going we can take a look at it there.
