I'm sure I've mentioned the on-line magazine "AutoSpeed" here before; it's
a great pub. Here's an article about something which many of us need to
remember:

Ken:

I get a kick out of the "down under" treatment of English (just like they get a kick of ours).

Proof positive that "all generalizations are wrong including this one"

On my Garmin GPS I use the voice of the Australian woman. Much easier
to understand than the American "Jill".

Plus. she can pronounce the name of Spanish streets in Santa Fe
whereas Jill can barely speak English let alone names like Cerrillos
or Fin del Sendaro

Crikey,

Naturally I selected the Aussie Shelia to do the talking on the Garmin I
have Downunder. She does all the talking except when school zones come up.
Then some Pomme (English) bloke pipes up with "forty kilometer school zone
ahead." That dubbo can't tell time as he rabbits on with the same line at
midnight! And the kiddies don't go to night school! ;-)

BTW the announcers on Aussie news can't pronounce things properly at all.
For example;

Military Junta - they pronounce it "Junta" and not "Hunta"

Movie Debut - they pronounce it "deyboo"

There's a lot more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Regards,
Rob M.
