Hi Wayne,
Are you aware that the coach you purchased from Walt Krebs was originally owned by the Newman-Haas racing team (yup, that Paul Newman....)? It had the name painted on the side until Walt reluctantly had the coach painted several years ago. Yes, JD is the one who did the work. Have fun.

I can remember standing in a group of folks asking questions back and forth outsife that coach at Road Atlanta. Newman was interesting, as liong as it was a discussion of racing and cars he was in the midst of it, but the second things turned to movies and stars, he'd excuse himselof and disaapear inside. Therer were lots of cameras evident, I'm sure there are pictures somewhere thoughI have none. You might tery the folks at Road Atlanta and see if they have any in the files.
I think he may still own a lap record there... since they altered the back straight with a chicane, none of the old records are going to fall.

Hi Jerry
Yes :d
I would enjoy hearing about what you know about the coach.
Walt was very happy to tell me about it. I even have pictures of the old Newman Haas paintjob before the repaint.
I am still curious about it, as I tried to find more information on this... but never found a picture of the coach in a racing setting. Also, i thought the racing team didnt exist before 1983 - so that would make the coach 10 years old before it got its initial paintjob.
Can you suggest where i would get more info on this?
Cheers, Wayne

Yep - That was Newman at the races. Showed up at a campfire at Road America with a 6 pack late one night. Very dark night, was there about a half hour before the specific discussion caused us to realize who it was. Because no one there gave a darn about movies or celebrity the discussion stayed on racing. He was very involved with the car and the campaign, not just a celebrity with money out for a drive.

The man was a racer through and through. He approached it with easily as much intensity as his acting, and like his acting, it showed in his results.

I met him a few times during our racing activities. The first time I met him I didn't have a clue who he was. He looked 20 years older in real life.
