I just wish that Ford would bring the NEW 2012 Ford Ranger
that has just been introduced to the rest of the world to
sell in the USA!

From what I have seen, it is quite a bit larger than the 2011 and
wouldn't fit well in the line-up with the F-150. It's like an F-125... ;-)

The new Colorado is bigger as well. GM is taking a gamble stateside and is actually hoping it will capture some potential full size customers who don't really need a full size and want better fuel economy. I still think some folks would like the original smaller. cheaper S-10 types.

Yes, that's what was in Truck Trend. I truly WOULD like
to have a new F-150 with the 3.5 liter Ecoboost V-6
engine in it, but having just traded in my 2004 F-250
diesel on a 2012 Flex with the 3.5 Ecoboost for my wife,
a new F-150 equipped as I'd like is definitely out of
the question! I really don't need the huge cargo or tow
capability of the F-150 I'd like to have and a new-style
Ranger would do quite nicely. I surely don't want a RAM
"mid-size" pickup.

Mopar has had some success with this formula applied to the Dakota pickup.  Whether or not it cannabilizes full - size sales is open to conjecture.

I understand the Dakota is going away as well. That will leave GM and
foreign manufacturers in the mid-size pick-up market. That foreign 2012
Ranger has a couple diesel options (gobs of torque), hope GM does the same.

It wouldn't be the first time Ford made a marketing mistake.
The new Ranger gets 22+ MPG, while the F150 gets only 16MPG around town. My old 2001 F150 gets the same MPG around town as the new model. I bought it when gas was under 2 bucks.

What mid-size truck gets the best MPG?

Bill

With Ford discontinuing the Ranger, and an unlicensed, undocumented, uninsured person of hispanic decent ran the red light and hit my Mazda B3000 (Ranger in Red Kimeno) and totalled it (collapsed the rear bed, inspite of the installed Class III hitch), there is little left to choose from.
I replaced it with a very nice made-in-Tennessee Nissan Frontier. Better gas mileage, better load capability, etc.
Ford had to make the pricing decision, becasue the Ranger was getting long in the tooth, and needed complete up-dating. Then the price point would be very close to the F-150. Frontier had better price point than Toyota. I'll keep this one until one of us dies.

I'll keep my Colorado. I'll wait until the new one is out a couple of years before I'll consider a replacement.

They already have a diesel in the Asian market Colorado. I'm sure the new Colorado will also have it outside of the US.

I would be embarrassed to tow a Ford. It would have to be under a cover.

Do not get too worked up with this.

I'm just having some fun with these Ford guys.

I was actually looking at an old Ford Focus until I discovered that they are prone to having the valve guides come loose and the engine self destruct at around 100,000 miles. It is only one engine model but it is so prevalent that you can not find a used engine or used head for them in the junk yards. The one I was looking at had that engine.

Yeah, you want to watch out for those Fords -- they ARE prone to
self-destruct, as shown here:

Certainly no good as a toad!

Tom,

Little did I know that back in Oct. when Ada and I lusted over your Pickup, that within a few weeks my PT Cruiser would die. We replaced it with a leftover 2011 Nissan Frontier. I'm the last person that would have thought of buying a foreign ride but I do love it. .....just the right size with lots of towing power.

Sweet!

I can admire skills I do not have, and nice cars... modified for the purpose. I doubt you could pick up a Focus like that at your local dealer! (Even if you could, can it be towed four-down?)

A few comments about the vid:

-- The guy on the Segway needs to be mindful of second hand smoke. (OBTW, he does get clipped in the closing credits.)

-- Do you think the reason the tires came apart had anything to do with being over 6 years old?

-- I like the guy doing push-ups at the end. Do you think we could park a GMC in the same place? (And expect it to stay?.... And could we be able to get it out of park?)

I have nothing against Fords, or any other brand, I just look at cars or small trucks... can it be towed four down? (With an Automatic... wife WILL NOT drive a stick.)

Rob, I Agree. Hope you're not including me in the Ford haters club. Razz I drive a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac. It is the BEST vehicle I have ever owned...

I simply cannot find a suitable replacement for it, so I keep driving it.

Incidentally,

Second Best? 1990 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible V6 5 Speed. Never let me down, and I beat the hell out of that thing. Twisted Evil

Car I kept the longest? 1966 Chevy II Nova Hardtop. I sold it to buy my GMC. Confused

Worst car I ever owned? 1977 VW Rabbit. at 70K miles, it was simply worn out. I couldn't count on getting across town in that POS. Mad

Had Fords off and on for a long time. (55 years) When they had the valves
in the block, I was very loyal to them. Had many souped up ones. Got
married and bought my second Oldsmobile, a 1955 Super 88 Holiday Hardtop.
Liked premium gasoline and lots of rear tires. Might have been my fault on
the tires, raced it for a couple of years. Traded it for a 1964 VW 40 HP
beetle. By far the lowest cost vehicle to own that I have ever had. Traded
it for a 1968 VW Double Cab Transporter. Drove it for 11 years. One of the
highest cost maintence vehicles. Traded it for a 1993 VW GTI Rabbit. Went
like jet stink, and handled as well. Good fun car. Bought a succession of
large Cadillacs, ending with a 1977 Sedan de Ville. Then went into business
in a Flower shop. Bought a used Ford Aerostar Van for a delivery truck.
Whipped the snot out of it, it never whimpered. I replaced brakes, belts,
and hoses. Drove it 166,000 miles in delivery service, lots of idleing,
stop and go. It was so good that I bought another one. Drove it with
multiple drivers for almost 300,000 miles, also stop and go delivery
service. Belts, hoses, brakes. No major repairs. Bought another aerostar,
same deal. Then Ford screwed up and quit making one of the most successful
vehicles in their history. I bought full size E-150 Ford vans. Not quite as
good as the Aerostars, but better than most anything else. My current Ford
vehicle is my Toad. It is a 1990 Bronco II, 2 wheel drive, 5 speed manual
shift. 2.9L V-6. Gets 27 MPG. Nearing 100,000 trouble free miles. Nothing
wrong with fords in my book.
