Hi All
Here in western PA, we are using Dish Satellite TV and the
Killer RV Show is on our Dish Channel 196 at 9:00 PM Eastern Time tonight -
Sunday. 196 is now the Travel Channel in lieu of 215 which was on our card.
Just thought I'd pass it along.

I was embarased for Jim, was this from the producers of axmen? Nothing about
the virtues of the GMC. Gals driving high performance race vehicles or
something to that effect.
Converting a school bus was well presented however.
Ducking now.

I would agree. Not much GMC content. And the guy with the bus.
For $21K and a bunch of man-hours, he could have been riding in
a pretty nice GMC and been allowed in most campgrounds.

Now I think I know why the Democrats are not saying much to refute the Republican's smear ads-- where do you start and what can you say!

First, I did not build the Duramx 23' coach for $57,000, the chassis alone cost more than that raw off the truck, I did not make $37,000 on the project, I actually lost a multiple of that number on it!

I did not win the drag race, "Barefoot" Bob H. did that.  Whatever those numbers were superimposed over my picture were I do not know.  This is a perfect example of an editor in a candy store.  The volume of images were scattered like a 1000 piece puzzle and there was very little truth actually connected together in a cohesive thought  so you "techno geeks" here don;t even look for anything to comment on or you too will fall into the tarbucket!

You have to admitt though, someone never seeing anything like an old motorhome doing a formitable burnout on a sanctioned drag strip, it had to make some sort of an impression.  Hey and if that impression is to look around on the internet for something about vintage RV's they will be bowled over by the volume of information out there on the GMC so now it's everyones job to refrain from blasting the show out of the water and take the interesting things and dwell on that.  Yea, there were young people out there having a fun times, smiling and laughing while messing around with old motorhomes-- that is the message we should try and pull out of all that and use to attract more people into our world.

Henry Ford said "A bump is as good as a knock, at least they are talking about you".  I am now more sure than ever he said that trying to feel better about everyone laughing about his production Model T!  He laughed at them all the way to the bank!  I do not hold out hope for me on that-- if I made $39,000 on building the 23d there is a good chance NASA never made it to the moon!

We can just sit and throw stones, why don;t we focus on what little exposure this gives the community and try and pull good stuff out of it.  I will guaranty you one thing, the 1 piece of drama they stuck in there will never happen again if I'm involved!  That is not the projection I want to make for my comapny or the community.  That probably above all of it bothered me the most.  So now that's over we'll just have to see what it does for us.  Who knows-- hey, there were piles of GMC's on national TV, that's not all bad!

Sorry 'bout that fiasco, Jim. Just tooo much "selective editing". That
was my first, and last, time watching that show -- aside from the few good
GMC shots, I saw nothing coherent or worthwhile during the 40 minutes or so
I devoted to it. Now I can again forget that we receive the Travel Channel.

Sure glad Mary Mondello passed on her "opportunity for stardom".

Jim is correct. The answer is exposure, and more exposure. Many areas have "free" classic cars shows. A well-tuned out GMC would be a hit. Look what the Tulsa Lunch Bunch has done with the Tulsa RV show. It is nice to be at an RV Park and have previous owners come and talk to you about their GMC, but we need new people to come talk about their next GMC. Prices will continue on their depressing downturn without new blood in the GMC.

Yea maybe but until you are on this side of that statement you just can't know how it feels-- the Co-op is still here because of all of the enthusiastic people who have helped to put it together and make things happen-- I'm just the monkey in the space suit crammed inside that capsule!  But hey, if that's what it takes then so be it...

You mean you're not running out to buy a "Gooney Bird' and do a fly over at the next rally while you flip on the maserator?  There are so many ways to make an impression!  Wonder how many people did the same thing as that guy buying an old school bus?  That's nothing new so if all of that was to put the idea into folks haeds that they can spand short money to have a personal driving machine they can crap in then we have started something!  Yea and I do think the editor was involved in Axmen.  Oh well, it is what it is and thats all it is, thanks for wasting some of your time,

Jim:

Based on comments here and my limited political experience, they spelled your name right, and have you associated with Motorhomes.

That's unfortunately, about as good as it gets.

They show up with an agenda, and they will edit to that agenda, no matter what you say.

Back when TV news was shot on film, I worked with "talent" and a "producer" who would go to a story telling me exactly how we would help (or slam) an official before even one word came out of his mouth.

Accept that television production and deadlines call forth the worst in human nature and be liberated by that knowledge.

Yea, there were young people out there having a fun times, smiling and laughing while messing around with old motorhomes-- that is the message we should try and pull out of all that and use to attract more people into our world.

As a sometimes lapsed member of the CoOp, I saw that Jim Bounds in the opening sequence as an edited for effect character on one of those "reality" iron shows. The nice guy that we know you as, is not what sells whatever they're selling. I enjoyed getting some sightings of the 23 & 26 conversions. I immediately noticed that absurd cost on the 23.

Thanks for all you do...

I thoroughly enjoyed that show as I love it all. Motorhomes, people having
fun, and drag racing. Larry does a nice burn out!

If you tuned in for anything technical on a GMC, the entire hour could've
been used up on just replacing the water pump. It would've been
impossible to do a better job in that time length. Heck, the commercials
ate up 14 minutes.

That's pretty much a response like "I had a Chevy (insert your brand here)
and I had a spot of trouble with it and won't consider another one."

TV, whether commercial or PBS, is generally about sensationalism 'cause
that's what generates interest on the part of the general public.

Sure, I was a bit disappointed by the GMC coverage, but I imagine that
it would have appealed to a whole lot of folks.

I don't know what or where "Burning Man" is located, but I suspect that
it just might be at Quartzsite!

The program that preceded the Killer RV show were about houseboats and
floating houses. The program that followed was about really high dollar
fifth-wheel trailers for rich celebrities. Am I likely to own one?
Hardly, but still more interesting IMNHO than 99% of the drivel that
generally populates commercial and a lot of public TV these days.

There was a show called "Found in America" that aired a number of years ago about a couple traveling the USA in their GMC.

I never saw it, but a friend and his wife watched the series and he stirred my interest in the GMC again. We both loved the GMC when it came out back in our highschool days. I eventually bought one but my friend's wife put the brakes on him.

I think a show like that would get alot of interest in our GMC's. I hope someday it's on the air again, or available on the internet.

As for TV show's these day, everything is about "sensationalism". 300 channels and nothing to watch for me.
