I am a shade tree guy and I think this has been mentioned by Ken Henderson, but for those like me who are forgetting things faster than I am learning them, here is a little test.
Quiz: Trans has about 5K miles.
1. Trans leaking, mostly in the front.
2. Swapped out final drive... no change.
3. Not coming from the pan, although it was dripping from the bolts after driving.
4. Was dripping from pretty much everywhere after a drive including mufflers, cross members, gas tanks, etc.
5. Pretty substantial: 6 quarts in the CA to Goshen GMCMI rally run.
6. Not the governor.
7. Not the speedo cable
8. Not the dip stick
9. Not the shift lever.
10. Top of the valve body has fluid on it.
11. Tiny pool (teaspoon or less) below the cooler tubes with none going down the left side.
Those quick off the mark will get it on the last two.
The cooler-out line was seeping.
For unknown reasons, there is a gopher hole from the little valley below the cooler tubes that goes forward to the ridged top of the trans. From there,even though it appears to be up hill, it actually can run down the right side of the trans and onto the top of the valve body. Because the valve body is sloped it is a quick trip to the seam where the trans pan mounts and can go right, left and back.

Could be the front seal on the trans where the converter neck slides into the trans.

It sounds to me like one of the transmission cooler tubes is leaking where it goes into the top of the transmission.

I had that exact problem after installing Manny's rebuilt. Jim K. sent me some copper washers that stopped it.
