Too bad they're the wrong ones.
You have them as 454 headers.

I am a new oner of a 76 palm beach. I found out the passenger side exhaust manifold has a large crack. It looks like it is time for headers. How much do they cost. Is chrome the best idea? I like chrome but doesn't it discolor fairly quickly. What alternative are there.

Adam, those sure look nice. Wish I could afford the coated ones like that. Sure would look good through my glass engine cover. But, I am just glad to have headers.

ok so what gives I thought the engine IS a 454 because it is in the Motorhome. the 455 was in the car????? do I have it backwards? so embarrassing...

OK changed the notation on the photo's.

As for cost I will refer you to Jimk at appliedgmc for the price (in case I got a real good one time only deal) I do know these are not on the applied web site yet and I paid less then the Thorley coated headers.

They are NOT chrome. just shiny ceramic coating, inside as well. the only reason I purchased these was the price. That and I have a crack on the Drivers side manifold. I can see it from the wheel well and hear it when she first starts for about 5 min until the manifold expands.

so as someone else pointed out install headers and be done with it. the PO installed stainless front to back so I just need to finish the last step.

You might want to do some reading. This site is a good start:

<http://www.gmcers.org/>

Be sure to pay attention to the section: "What Makes a GMC Special?" It discusses the engine and drive-train.

After that you can get lost here: Twisted Evil

Welcome aboard!

Paul,

Look here under exhaust for info on headers...

http://appliedgmc.com/

The chrome will discolor over time -- but ceramic is also available and more expensive.

You could also look for used cast iron exhaust manifolds and I believe Cinnabar still has new ones available.

There are no chromed headers for the GMC MH. couple years ago they use
to have the nickle dip coating that looked like chrome.
As the cost of Nickle went up, the header manufactures switched to the
High temp ceramic coating. This coating keeps the heat in the system
and stays on rather well.
We stock both the New Doug's headers for the 455 an well as the Thorly
for the 403.
They are interchangeable, but the Doug's have bigger port openings.
Beings that the business is slow during the Winter month, I can offer
you deals on them .

Thanks for the links Mr Miller Smile

Funny thing is that both are already book marked and I HAVE read those pages a few times.... Rolling Eyes

Must be due to a buddy (Dodge man) trying to correct me every time I said it was a 455 he said "don't you mean 454?"
or could be the cold weather froze the brain. it is -17c (0f) right now not counting the wind chill.

Anyway can't wait to get them on.

Adam, you fixed your problem once and will be done with it. I like your thinking.
