I am installing the Q Bag system and found one of the Boggy pins had corroded and outer threads were gone. When I cleaned the bolts it looked like the threads were gone and when I installed the new nuts it only caught by couple of threads.

How do you get the old pins out?

I bought a set of pins a while back for so unknown reason other I like spares parts.

By the way the kit is real nice. I did have to grind to get clearance for the hand brake bracket.

What is the best place to mount the manifold?

I had to remove the exhaust pipe because I could not find the top bolts. Mud Drubber had covered the bolts and I did not what was happening. It meant cutting the exhaust since the joint would not come apart.

My manifold is mounted onto the wheel well housing in the front upper corner.

I have seen pictures of them mounted on the quadrabag support bracket (toward the top), and that may be a better location as the fittings would be easy to access.

Bummer about the threads. To replace the pin the whole bogie arm and carrier assembly needs to be removed as the pins come through from the backside of the bracket which is up against the frame. I would

1.Lift from bogie bracket and get it pretty high
2.Support with lots of tip resistant large diameter wood blocking in the double thickness area with a cross member just forward of the bogie bracket
3.Remove airbag setup/emergency brake cable/shocks/hub and bearing assemblies
4. Lag bolt a 2x4 between the airbag mounts on bogie arms
5.Support bogie assembly with a jack and remove the bolts/lower assembly to floor and start having fun getting the retainer plate and pin out(be sure to note placement of any camber shims

It truly sucks. I would try and salvage the threads somehow first. The pin can't go anywhere while the bogie assembly is installed. If your "hat" that sticks through the bogie carrier is tight(frozen?) To the bogie carrier and there is no side play in the arm then the nut is not terribly crucial I.M.O.

Thanks but the nuts hold the Q Bag outer plate in place. I guess being one nut is good, the other has a few threads to hold the plate in place I may be ok. The inner and outer plates are bolted together. I have been thinking of using loctite to make sure the nut does down work loose.

Art,

You DO want both the nuts to be secure, at least with the Harrison 4-bag
system; probably with Quad-bag. When I installed mine I also replaced the
pins. For reasons not worth describing, one of the pins was able to rotate
slightly. That caused the nut to work off. The pedestal then splayed out
to where it was almost off of the threaded end of the pin before I noticed
it.

I don't know whether it's at all practical, but in your position I'd see
whether it's feasible to drill and tap a 1/2" hole in the bracket (bogie)
between the two pins. If so, I'd use that to secure either the pedestal
itself or an added retainer plate.

Or somehow devise a way to be sure the pedestal can't come loose.

JWID,

Ken H.

I find it hard to believe that the pin has oxidized that much to where
there is question as to if there are enough threads to hold the Q Bag.
Q Bag is the only one that offers a thinner nut that is turned to fit into
the outer plate and the outer nut will not extend over the end of the
existing pin.
I fought this design on the bases of cost, but when we started with several
innovations, I felt that a better more refined unit would be better.
I would like to get a picture of the deteriorated pin.

Well I have assemble the Q bag system for now with the pin as it is. It looks to be well designed system. When I cleaned the threads before I removed the nuts I was wondering about the threads. They did not look good. When I installed the nut it would slide on most of the way before engaging any threads. Hand tightening it I got 1.5 turns on the nut and after I tightened it I had 2.5 turns. The other three nuts started right away. I torque the one with 2.5 thread engagement to 50 ft lbs. I might have gone higher but felt like I pushed it as high as I dared. I know it called for 100 ft lbs on the attached directions.

Mine took just one washer to have clearance for the swing arms. I did have to grind for clearance for the hand brake bracket and cable.

Now how the threads were damaged could be debated but they looked like they had corroded which is strange since the RV does not any show corrosion on the frame.

When your doing these things on a daily baisd you just bend that bracket
slightly and move on. Back yard people have the time to elect to grind the
elecro coated part and feel they are doing it right.
We addressed this twice and shaved the bracket on the program.
