Good morning all from El Paso
Planning a trip from El Paso to Portland Oregon in middle april. I have a daughter getting married in May and am looking to see what might be some great sights to see along the way. Also is there a good campgrounds outside portland near millwuakee Oregon. Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Marcel,
There is a nice small rv park on the Tualatin River in Tualatin, Ore. Southwest of Portland/Beaverton.
I stayed there several days last year. Clean and quiet. Easy access to Portland and Milwaukee.
I can dig up name and address if you can't locate it.

I think your also asking about things to do. I've never camped but outside Portland some camp in the rest area (of course rules change don't know if they still do, but I'm guessing they do). Its NOT like most rest areas its full of really large trees and looks like a campground... Of course the Oregon Coast is beautiful. I love the trip from I-5 to Newport. Just beautiful. Theres whale watching Often you can see whales just by pulling on the side of the road. Devils Punch Bowl on the coast is cool outside of Newport. The ocean smashes into a rock form and swirls around. Just awesome, and free. Outside Salem ( Salem is just south of Portland) there is a state park full of beautiful waterfalls. Its free (except for parking if it hasn't changed) The waterfalls are VERY easy to hike to for people of all ages. In Portland there is the science museum which is really great. Mt Saint Helens in WA to the north of Portland (you can see it from many places in Oregon). Willamette Valley Vineyard just north of Salem is free. Wine tasting, and tour. Looks just like France. Covered bridges abound. Theres a lot to do, and April should start yielding nicer weather.

There is unlimited things to do in Oregon.
champoeg state park is a nice park. might be a little further from millwuakee . but I think you could still make it to milwaulkee in 30-40 minutes from the park.
as mentioned Silver Falls State Park. has the waterfalls. just outside of Silverton, ORegon. Silverton is less then an hour from Milwaulkee. There are plenty of nice Campgrounds. and also plenty of places you can stay for free(no hookups). all over that area.
you do not have to go far out of Portland or Milwaulkee to get away from civilization.

Ahh Thank you. SilverFalls couldn't think of the name. Thats one awesome place. Our son was born in Silverton. Oh I forgot, the Tillimook Cheese/Ice Cream Factory! Another free tour with free cheese!!!! If I have been there 10x ! lol

Indeed the Rose Garden is incredible, and free. But if you get there, you really must also go to the Japanese Garden. Same parking lot, but a short hike up the hill to the garden. They have a shuttle that runs up and down if walking up a fairly steep hill is a challenge. Five acres of beautiful and serene landscaping for $10. Everything you'd expect in a Japanese Garden including waterfalls and Koi. Plus, no restaurant, no concessions (though there is a gift shop), no cell phones, no pets, no electronic games!
Then there's the Chinese Garden, a full city block, about an acre, of classic Chinese artistry. Amazing focused beauty everywhere you look. And right in the center of the downtown Pearl District. I think it's about $10 admission.
Another not-to-miss for you is the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Test Garden, very close to Milwaukie on the other side of the Willamette River, by Reed College. Ten acres of water, waterfalls, walking paths, huge old Rhody's and azaleas, ducks and geese of all kinds, with occasional marmets and other water creatures. I think it's about $3 admission, but check their website as it's not open every day.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but Multnomah Falls is another not-to-miss sight, and also free. It's about 30 minutes drive east of Portland, lots of parking even for a MH, and is an impressive 600+ ft falls. You ought to see it in the winter during freezing weather!
