Anyone use a tankless LP water heater? My water heater is electric and I hate it. I'm going to switch to LP. Anyone use a tankless heater? I've seen some low prices on the portable type and was thinking of buying one for the kitchen and one to the shower. Not sure if the portables can be used in the actually plumbing for both but I'll investigate that. I have seen the tankless ones like adventurerv has but $550 is high when I can get (2) portables for $250 ish.

I'm going to go for this idea for sure. I'm not the worlds greatest plumber but I learn fast. When you put the unit in the frig area where is the best way to plumb in the supply line, and how do you route the hot water line? I'm totally blind right now since the GMC is a few miles away at my shop and I can't look. But I'm excited to learn more.

I am planning on plumbing the water just like the OEM tank was plumbed - just go left into the refrig. compartment instead of right to the OEM water heater. There is already propane in my compartment so I will need to 'T' into it and I plan to use some flexible line from a local hose fabricator from the 'T' to the refrig. and water heater. I plan to follow Ray's lead pretty closely.

I've seen a copper pipe to the left of the frig when looking at the frig from the front (inside the RV). Is that a supply line?
If it is, where is the line to get the hot water to the faucets? I thought I'd have to take out the water heater thats in the bathroom and run the lines to it?

Dan Gregg did a nice installation on his coach that I found very practical. Of course he was flamed beyond imagination by our members but I suspect he is still much alive and kicking!

The only copper pipe in my coach is the propane supply. That is the pipe I will 'T' into to supply the water heater and the fridge. My electric water heater under the bathroom sink has plastic pipe going to it and I plan to lengthen the pipes, run them behind the fridge, and pipe the new water heater the same as the old one was.
I think Dan Gregg's on-demand heater is in his shower and only supplies the shower. Dan, am I right?

You are correct Armand. All we needed was hot water for a shower daily. I can not function without a shower in the morning. Running the Onan was getting old. Took me 2 years to find what I wanted for a fair price. Works great. If Teri needs hot water in the kitchen I get it for her from the shower. Just did not want to use it for the entire coach and left the electric heater in for when we are plugged in. These things are great for guys like me who enjoy drycamping. Most of our group probably never dry camps, other than one night @ Walmart. This would not be worth the trouble for them.
Bob, I am surprised you dont have one as you dry camp a lot.

I installed an on-demand heater pretty much using Ray Erspamer's info. I removed the failed OEM water heater and the OEM water heater heat exchanger lines to the engine. You have both the cold intake to the OEM tank and the hot water output just astern of the refrigerator opening so it's not too hard to extend them to the location of the on-demand unit. I used plastic pipe. You'll have to pull the fridg and fab mounting brackets. I used aluminum angle. You can mount the heater high enough so you still have access to the fridg burner and controls. Mounting the exhaust hose takes some planning since you have to find a space to feed it between the fridge and the coach outside wall. The EZ101 has a metric exhaust pipe dimension, and I ordered the aluminum pipe from the EZ folks. I was then able to fit a high temperature pipe from Granger inside the metal pipe with the hope that it would lower the temp of the aluminum tube, sort of like a Class B water heater exhaust pipe. I vented the combo just under the fridge roof vent. As Ray did, I lined the wall of the coach with sheetmetal from the top of the fridg outside access port all the way to the fridg roof vent. I also lined the roof cap with sheetmetal to spread the heat and make sure that the plastic would not be damaged by the heat from the water heater. I also installed a couple of 12v muffin fans near the bottom of the water heater pointing up with a thermostat control mounted in the EZ exhaust hood to insure good air flow and keep the temperature down. In retrospect, I think the muffin fans are overkill, things just don't get that hot.

That's too high--somewhere aroun $125 is readily available.

On the drivers side of my coach behind the cabinets, left of the frig I have a copper water pipe without question. The PO cut the pipe about 1" and then repaired it with a hose and some clamps. I know its there for sure since it dripped all over our clothes a few times. ruining our trip once! Could it be the supply from the city water???? It goes from the back of the cabinets over the ceiling. It looks like it would head into the bath. On the drivers side of the coach is the city water hook up, its got to be it.
