Any views out there on an insurance that will insure on an agreed value like you can get for vintage cars and an hotrods?
Come to think of it thats what a GMC is. I'm sure my standard statefarm policy won't even cover the new tires or a full tank of gas.

This will be very state by state dependent even within the same brand of insurance, so take input with a grain of salt until you check for your state specifically.

this is about the pardey's they are boaters and do not keep insurance.
If the wreck will be the fault of the driver it will most likely be a ball joint - lower going out which means the frame hits the ground or
rear ending of another car, so the best insurance is grease and going slow with lots of distance, and driving like an old lady on red bull.
wear a helmet in the gmc as well.
a lot of the pardey info works on the land as well. check them out. THey have gone around the world 24 years on a boat less than 30 feet long.

I've always assumed that the insurance company looks at their policyholders like any other business- how much did they pay in premiums vs. what they had to pay out in claims. Factor in how long they were able to hold on to your money to invest, and you have their business plan!
I also agree that the best insurance is careful driving andnot having to make claims. State Farm haas been fair with me here in Illinois, but I do have many different policies with them when I add our personal and business policies.
The cost of the GMC policy is more than I think it should be, but I haven't looked around at too many others.

It's not a business I would like to be in. My overall feeling is that they are whores and other than a good agent that may go out of their way to help you, don't fall for any of the advertising or even fellow recommendations. Read the fine print and pay accordingly. None of them are your friend.

[GMCnet] Quartzsite [message #157384 is a reply to message #157361] |

If you are considering attending Quartzsite this year, The GMC Pacific Cruisers are hosting a rally from wednesday the 25th of January to the first of February at Rice Ranch (full hookups and a short walk from the RV show in the big tent and many of the booths). The GMC Pacific Cruisers sold out all their available spaces several weeks ago. I paid for one but unfortunately, I will not be able to use the space and it is being offered to any GMCer who is interested. If you want more information, I can be reached at nortocd@yahoo.com or at 208 440-8702.
Doug Norton
More info: Spaces with hookups are usually all sold out in Quartzsite by this time of year but there is free dry camping on remote BLM land near town or closer in, dry camping with access to water, a dump station and trash is available for about 40 dollars for 14 days. With way over 1,000 booths in town and many more in the RV tent, it is a gotta do experience. Most days are in the seventies and the town of about 1,500 sees about 400,000 visitors in January.

I too have agreed value insurance with Progressive through Marlene at a reasonable rate. I did have to get an appraisal from Jim K which was accomplished with, I recall, a fairly detailed completed questionaire he sent me and some photos.

In my area, Progressive adjuster know of the value of a GMC and they
have been more than fir with us when it comes to repair costs.
Presently we have one here where the damage was small, but it cam up
to over 10K.
They had declared value from Progressive, so it was great for the owners.
We do appraisals all over the country as we have people we hire to do
a casual peak under the coach for severe rust and just overall
condition.
Our appraisal is really fair, as we ask the question: How much will it
take to replace the coach by finding another unit similar and doing
all that you have don to it?
It is not surprising to run up to 30K and even 40K for a n average coach.
You can go to our website and go to INSTRUCTIONS and download the
trial form and do your own evaluation and realize how little coverage
you presently have.
We charge $200 for the appraisal, but at the convention, we do it for $150.

Just in the off hand case that you think JimK is kidding, think again. When I got my appraisal from Jim, I though he was exaggerating the replacement cost. At a later date we were talking and he explained he thinking to me as "If your coach is a total loss, how much is it going to cost you get another coach to the level of reliability and appearance that you currently enjoy?"
I took that as a challenge. I keep records (of course, I'm used to charging other people for the work I do) and a started through them.
When we acquired the coach it was a real deal (I didn't know how good a deal until talking to people at Berrien Springs 06). But, then I put in a new coach heater. Then I did a few more things here and there no big cash out of pocket for any one item, but sometimes lots of hours. Sometimes parts and materials were the result of barter or other non-cash transactions. I did not include expected maintenance like oil, filters, belts, hoses and tires. I did include some of the preventive maintenance as it is what makes the coach as reliable as it is. Then I got to the bottom right corner of that spread sheet. Hang On Charlie!!
JimK was way right. I don't have alloy wheels or fuel injection. No TV, and the interior is pretty much the way Gemini put it in.
Did you think that the standard line we use that a good, dependable and decent coach is 25K$ - all at once or as a kit was a joke?? Let me tell you it is not. It is not at all.
With the standard of if you can afford to lose it, don't insure it. This is why I am try to find out how to buy an agreed value policy in Michigan.
Think about it.

When I still lived in Michigan I had agreed value with AAA. Everyone told me AAA didn't offer it but they did in Michigan--not sure if they still do.

I can tell you that if you think your coach is worth only 12K, and go
that route, you'll be in for a shock if you have a fender bender.
Most Fender benders cost over 3-5K and the insurance co. will total
out your unit in a heart beat.

Also a small electrical short or small fire is enough to total it
unless you look around and calculate all that has been do to your
coach and what it would have cost if you paid us to do all that.
Your plain jane units can be appraised for 20k plus.
Were not talking selling price, just what it would cost to replace it
like it is today.
