Steve ,
Powder coating is a Plastic coating?
Hello,
Decided to get some GMC parts powder coated. I believe that this is very
hard wearing, and resistant to chemicals etc.

Hi,
I've had lots of bike parts powder coated. Usually they do a clear coat over
the color coat that has a UV barrier. If you are worried about a scratch or
two ask the place for some powder in a can. You can mix it with a little
acetone which "melts" it and then use a q-tip to touch up the scratched
area.

Thanks

Yes, the powder is a thermoplastic product, usually epoxy, that melts and fuses to the surface when heated.

Yes, some are.
Google "epoxy thermoplastic" if you want more information.
