Thinking about a total re-paint of my 73 Sequioa,looking for any feed back on private or shop guys in the PX area or Rocky point Mex.Good and resonable cost would be nice.No body-work as-such needed.Time is not inportant and I can wait for the right deal. Homer

I don't know the details of Bruce Tara's painter, nor where he was located,
but I did have conversation with him after the fact: I'm not sure he'd
have done it again. He stuck right with them throughout the process,
essentially instructing them on everything he wanted done. Even then, he
was not really satisfied with the quality of the results.

One of our AZ GMC netters has Bruce's last coach--maybe he can comment. I do recall a conversation 4 or so years ago that generally indicated positive results.

I know a guy who paints really custom work in AZ. But it depends on if your looking for that type of stuff. Hes more of a artist then just a one color wonder.

I agree with Ken on my recollection of Bruce's paint job. I've long since
tossed the email we exchange about it. More or less, he described it as a
perfect 100 -- great from 100 feet. There were some runs and sags here and
there and masking wasn't as close as he would have liked. But, he also
didn't pay the price to get the quality.
It's been just under three years since Bruce made his last trip to Mexico.
He never got to finish the restoration on the 78 Royale.

That would be me.
I have had Bruce's first coach for three and a half years now. The coach looks pretty good from just a few feet away, but the detail work is not very good. I have put some serious elbow grease and some money into polishes and polishers, to get it to shine up. For what Bruce paid (rumor has it that it was somewhere between $2500 and $3500) it is an acceptable job. I am on a trip right now but I might have details of the whole project, at home, on a CD he gave me. He told me he had to buy the guys a chalk line and show the painters how to use it, for the stripes. Here is a link to his Photo Site album:

I don't mind. If the stamp didn't cost so much I'd send you a $2 coin you
could use the next time you're in Canada. (Note that I didn't say Toonie in
case the guys at Quartzite didn't understand. :>)

Bruce did bring the paint with him, and yes, it did have sags and runs in several places, but passes the 10 foot test.
All Aboard America in Mesa does show quality paint work. I got a four color quote for $8K, and this included some bodywork at the rear where the tailight bucket was damaged. Steep, but they paint buses and coaches of the stars, and those run 12-20K. John Ruff may chime in about them too.
I found another guy who does RV painting in a shop in Mesa, quoted 4,500-5K, only saw bodywork when there, but looked pretty good.
I have a neighbor who has painted several cars in Mexico. He brings the paint with him too. The Cars look pretty good, Not Perfect, though.

Larry is 100% correct, Topeka does a great job.
We had our coach painted there last spring, dropped it off April 1st and picked
it up the 3rd week of May, we weren't in a big rush.
Larry & Karen did everything we asked for PLUS things we hadn't noticed, our
total cost was $5k plus the cost of painting the trailer. In my opinion they
can't be beat considering the price.

that is reasonably priced and looks nice from 1ft away. Why go to Mexico where
you have to watch them do every step when for a little more you can drop it off
with professionals and forget about it until it's time to pick it up. JMHO

A good quality GMC paint job cost well over 9K 15 to 20 years ago. That's for a 1" quality--not 1 ft or 10 ft.
