Steve,
I found remembered seeing your post when I found this PCB yesterday behind my dash and ty-wrapped behind the washer switch on my '78 Palm Beach.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=42411&title=pcb-found-under-dash-behind-washer-switch&cat=27

I'm thinking mine is the low fuel switch circuit for the low fuel warning light in the tell tale center. I had to order light sockets since I was missing 3 on the tell tale center, then I'll test it to see if it works. If not, I may try to make one if I can get the values figured out as I doubt I could buy one.

Hod did you figure out it was a knock sensor?

Helllo,

"How did you figure out it was a knock sensor?"

Well a few clues. The microphone on the black lead was the first clue. It has adjustments also, and drives 2 leds, one in the device itself, and one on the dash. So i had a circuit board, with an audio input, and variable sensitivity, that drives 2 red leds. So well the only thing that made any sense, was a knock sensor....

If i had an oscilloscope that would help me out, but i do not.

So well, my money is currently on the knock sensor.

It's still connected in the dash, too much going on to rebuild etc, at the moment to mess with it.If i take it out some time, i can do a few tests on it.

cheers and beers

Your 1977 has three small modules (circuit boards) behind the dash.
There is a low coolant module. It should have 4 wires. Light Blue, Yellow, Brown with dbl white stripe, black.

There is an Electro Level time delay relay that lights a panel light reminding you to put the switch into travel.
It has three wires. Brown with dbl white stripe, yellow and brown.

There is a Low Fuel module that tells you when you are getting low.
It has 4 wires. White, Black, Pink with dbl black stripe and Light Green.

Check the wires on the module that you are questioning and let us know.

I really doubt that you have a knock sensor module as GM did not install those and that would not be a place where a prior owner would install one.

Hello,
Emery look at the photo i posted, this is not an OEM device. If you have any ideas on that it is then please tell me what you think. It has audio input, and sensitivity adjustment.
Only thing that makes any sense to me is a knock sensor ????

Thanks for the info on the OEM circuit boards fitted, that info is going to come in handy Razz

cheers and beers
