Has anyone made a diverter valve for the gray sink water to go outside verses into the black water tank?
I travel with my wife and two kids. The kids toss more water down the sink, then hand washing, dishes, etc theres a ton of gray water. But with only one tank its kinda a bummer. I built a 2 valve diverter to open up a new line that goes out to a hose bib. If its closed and the other is open then it will go all in the black tank like normal.
When it goes out of the hose bib it can go into a bucket, or even a hose as run off. Same water we would get from washing dishes, or hand washing outside which we commonly do and it spills on the ground. But now we can do them inside and have it flow into a bucket. Now I won't be taking up a ton of space just for slightly used gray water!

Few people have done that but you will need to tackle it at the
bathroom area and route the pipe separately .
We have done one for a customer using one valve and having the cap at
the end or use 2 valves and not worry about a cap.
You will want to have the option to go both way as some sites dislike
draining gray water.

is not legal to dump grey water, on the ground, so have to provide some
other storage,
so
if you have to dump any way, better to dump the whole black tank so it does
not over flow. ;>)

I have seen several coaches that have a diverter valve at the kitchen, bath , and shower...not at the toilet....DAH!!. These allow washing water (grey) to just dump directly on the ground at the point of usage. I wonder about the wisdom of this, especially in environmentally sensitive areas. Though I would do it if say parking on a large grassy area where streams were not nearby. Also, I wonder about the advisability of pure poop and TP in the black tank. IMO it should be diluted down with water anyway for the proper odor chemistry to work, and for it to dump effectively. JWIT

Be careful in Oregon.
We once washed some local cherries and let the water dump on the ground from
our SOB in to a drain at a rest stop.
Got a warning from the local sheriff.
You can not do this in our state.

I own a home in Oregon as well as AZ, and they are very concerned about the planet (which is a good thing!)
However I'm not talking about shower water, toilet water, bathroom sink water. I am just going to do it for kitchen sink water when needed. Meaning the kids dump more 1/2 empty water bottles down the sink. Or while cooking we always have water going down the drain. Or we wash a few dishes. Same water that will be on the ground when we use a portable plastic tank outside. I'm going to keep a bucket under mine so it doesn't go all over the place. Of course if we are in a area it is frowned upon, I'll open the second valve and let it go into the regular tank.

We are not talking "logic" here....
.... we are talking "law."
One doesn't have anything to do with the other... unfortunately.
The law is written so they do not have to prove that "what" it is coming out of the drain... just that "something" is. Any dumping is not allowed.
Teach your kids to pour the unwanted bottled water on the ground.

...
....
Makes me wonder about the wisdom of installing a drain on the air conditioner for condensation. (I mentioned it in another thread.)

Small kids sure use a lot of water. I think your idea of diverting water to the outside rather then filling your holding tank too soon is a good move. Too get around the legal end of it in some places that could get you in hot water I would get one of those blue tanks with wheels on it that they sell at rv stores. This would be legal and you can then decide where you want to dump it when it is full. I bought mine for $5 at a garage sale.

I'm glad to see we have many people who respect the law here as much as they do the planet! Sometimes I guess the smell of a pre EPA air quality vehicles with such smelly generators really clouds my judgement. My child dumping a 4 oz of water thru my hose bib into a bucket idea was really poor judgement.

As far as the water goes....
As the outside shower does not drain through the RV, I believe that it would be with-in the law. But some cop or lawyer might see things differently. You'll need to check the local laws. As motorhomes travel from place to place, be sure that any drain modifications are "flexible" enough to allow that everything can be made to go into the black/gray tank(s), at least when required to do so. Even if you have to dump more often.
As far as the visuals....
Some places I go, that would be fine. But you do not NEED to go there!

Honestly I never knew there were so many people that drive a GMC that is so concerned about a subject like this. Its great to know there is a group of people who follow every single rule and regulation so well. Theres a much older law that states you must love your neighbor as yourself, to bad that ones not on the top of everyones list. I guess we forget stuff like that when theres big violators who dump sink water into buckets. No wonder my neighbor just moved.

Michael,
I don't think anyone is trying to go all sanctimonious on you here. They are simply pointing out the laws on the subject. I would imagine that most members on this forum would agree that those laws border on the ridiculous at times. Never the less. they are on the books, and enforced and not complying with them could get you in, uh, deep doo doo.
I know people who do just as you say, they just keep it to themselves. Personally, I wouldn't think pumping the macerated and enzyme treated contents of the black tank into a hole, and covering it up, would be harmful in the desert. It certainly can't be any worse than taking a dump in a hole, under a tree, while you are on a hike. But if you get caught doing it by the BLM ranger, I'm told the fines are steep.
We have a wash basin that we put in the sink, when dry camping, and we dump the contents on the ground, outside. Probably also illegal!

Honestly, I must be a rouge. My bath water, and second sink will ALWAYS go to the tank. Just the left side kitchen sink will has a valve that I can if opt to flow it into a bucket outside when I want to. I'm guessing more "OMG thats illegal water" GMCers do 26 mph in a 25 mph zone. I'm not super concerned either way. Call the cops I've done far worse in my life then put water into a bucket. Once I poured milk on my driveway and didn't look back.
I've never known what I should talk about and what I shouldn't, something I'm working on. I didn't think gray sink water would have such a reaction.
