My 74 Eleganza has the OEM passenger bench seat, mounted on non stationary frames atop a box angled pedestal (10" front height higher than rear).. The pedestal is mounted with an opposite leaning cant relative to the drivers pedestal.

? Is there a source for an OEM swivel base for the passenger seat. I am in the process of mounting Honda Odyssey seats, and have found many references on the install, but these appear to focus on the drivers' swivel base.

regards from 34F and sunny Racine, Wisconsin

Ray,

If you look at the photos of Ray E's Honda seat installation on OEM swivel seat bases you will see that the pivot is not in the
center of the seats.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=30276

This allows the drivers seat centerline to be aligned with steering wheel center line and the seat will swivel.

If a seat base with a pivot point in the center of the seat is used and the center line of the seat is aligned with the center line
of the steering wheel the back of the Honda seat will hit the side wall. Been there done that!

The problem you have is that the seat bases pictured in Ray E's Honda seat installation are rare as rocking horse poo!

EVERYONE that installs Honda seats wants a pair.

I got lucky and found a pair on eBay for $50!

Here’s a photo taken by KenH of the passenger seat base:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=27833

It clearly shows the "offset" swivel action.

Regards,
Rob M.

I mounted some odyssey seats in our 23' coach with regular
old swivel bases and just mounted the bases themselves off-center.
That way, I got the effect of the OEM offset seat bases, but with
regular after market swivels. I used steel u-channel to mount
the seats to the bases, offset to one side from the swivel.

We also stuck some steel plate under the floor to reinforce the
mounting since we weren't bolting into the oem aluminum frame as
the original seats did.

Karen,

I'm a bit confused by what you've noted below.

Are you saying that by mounting the Honda seats offset you were able to align the center of the seat with the center of the steering
wheel and the seat would swivel without hitting the side wall?

If yes photographs and measurements of how you did it would be VERY helpful!

Regards,
Rob M.

I was afraid you'd say that... :-)

Yes, that is how I mounted them. You do have to slide the seats forward
on their tracks so they can swivel past the wall, but that's exactly how the
OEM offset swivels work in our other coach. (ie, if the seats are all
the way back, they won't clear the wall)

These pics might help:

The dimensions really depend on what slides, swivels, etc, you're using.
I suggest if you want to do this swivel solution, mount the bases
temporarily to the floor with some wood screws and play with the
exact placement for your installation. That's how I did it.

In hindsight, I'd probably mount the seat swivels a little further
back on the floor to give more room at the steering wheel. Doesn't
matter now since I'll be moving the bases to the other coach which
has flexsteel seats so have to redo it all.

Note: our floor is ~3/4" thicker than oem because I added sound dead,
1/2" poly-iso foam, and 1/4" plywood on the cockpit floor to
improve insulation. (I used 1/2" plywood spacers wherever I needed
bolts through the floor so it wouldn't just crush the insulation.)
I also modified the hatch so it'd have more overhang over the floor
(for better sound isolation) so the hatch is a little bigger than original.
Clears the odyssey seats just fine. Don't know that the bigger hatch
would clear flexsteels.

Hope this helps.

Karen,

Excellent "out of the box" thinking (and doing!).

The photographs will help people that can’t find a pair of OEM bases with the offset swivel!

Rob M.
