Gene,

The ONLY GMC facility I know of Pennsylvania is Ken Frey in Quakertown.

I've Cc'd him on this reply so he can respond.

If it is his shop that is shutting down it will be a big loss to the GMC Community, he's a top notch GMC mechanic!

Regards,
Rob M.

I speak with Ken Fry at least two to three times a month.
He has been thinking about shutting down as I have also been thinking of it.
Having a shop is a real pain as majority of the local people complain
to everyone but us about somethings that we might done wrong.Plus I
need to compete with free labor offered down the street.
We do well enough on parts and kits to where it is better to drop the service.
Maybe the rumor started when people found that I am flying to PA to
pick up parts and driving it back. The parts I'm bringing back does
not belong to him, but acquired through his help.
I might load up with some parts from his shop , but unlikely.

I've never been a great fan of free labor. You can't go back and complain.
I'd rather retain the right to complain or brag even thought it costs
something. It's also one way to help the economy.

A win-win approach.
I can't afford to pay someone else a decent wage so I have to provide my own free labor. And since I make a lot of mistakes, kicking myself afterwards keeps me fit and flexible. Another win-win.

I go by and visit Ken every summer when I'm in Quakertown visiting my wife's family. In fact we'll be there in a couple of weeks to meet my new niece.

It is most definitely not a large shop. But it is most definitely a superb one. If you drove past, you'd never think a GMC would fit in there.

I have known Ken and Janet for over 18 years.
I think we got better acquainted when Grace and I volunteered to help
Ken put on a Breakfast at International convention in South Dakota.
Ken and Janet also took several of us to New York City to visit the site of 911.
It was quite an experience being there and having him show us the area.
Ken located some new GMC parts in his area so I'll be flying over
there to pick them up and truck it back as I will need to take
inventory an load it in a cargo van and haul them back.
Ken F has quite a load of rebuilt transmissions at his place he will
sell at great prices.

True.  And grousing about it is repair man's burden in this country.  It ain't just GMCs or even vehicle fixing.  We reserve the right to bit** about anything.  I simply jacked my price ti salve the bruises to the ego from it, and made it VERY clear to potential clients, all I offer is a 'best effort'.  I do mostly repeat business, and I've cut that back substantially by jacking the price till the workload was where I wanted it.
