The amount of work involved with closing off the vent hole is at least identical and likely exceeds the amount of work to properly seal the vent assuming the leak is between the vent body and the coach roof. If the vent assembly is not damaged, just remove it and re seal with non hardening adhesive sealant (aka dum-dum, monkey poo, butyl, ribbon caulk, etc) making sure to top seal rivets with a roofing sealant such as quad seal(home depot). You would need to do all of the above to plate the hole and you would need to fabricate a plate with an arc to fit the roof and drill it for mechanical fastening prior to sealing. Unless you are planning on painting the roof in which case you would fabricate the patch and panel bond it to the inside of the roof skin and then contour on the outside. If you properly seal the existing vent it could be obscured visually from the interior while always being there ready if there is a change of plans.

Hello,

I had a leak in the fan vent, that caused the same problem you had. I managed to find a diferent vent that loooked nice.

"I would add that the old screw holes did NOT MATCH up with the new vent". NONE of the newer fittings i have bought line up with the OEM holes...........

Also it can be totally closed off. After thinking a lot about the fan and vent setup, i decided to make it look nice on the outside, but leave the option of adding a fan back later on if needed. Planning to just seal the vent off inside, and covering over with plywood ETC so from inside it just looks like a flat wall. Thats my pennys worth on this subject. If you ever wanted to sell the coach, it might be better to leave a vent in, so the next owner could use it if needed ?????

cheers and beers

The moisture came from the vent on the side of the coach, not from the
roof. I would imagine from many wind driven rainstorms. It was bad enough
that he side panel as well as the counter top also have moisture damage.
Thanks for the reply. One more to add to the list (aka dum-dum, monkey
poo, butyl, ribbon caulk, etc) gum pucky.

Hello,

Thanks for the tip on the stove vent on Ebay.
I recently managed to get hold of one that style , 2 weeks ago for a resonable price. Looks very nice , as compared to the OEM vent, that was WAY past, it's sell by date ....

Still looking for the solonoid that fits behind it.

I would add that the holes on that new vent DID NOT match with the original holes, at least on my coach. So drilled out all the old rivets, and going to fit into new holes, with stainless steel hardware, plus lock nuts & washers, should work ok.

Have a nice day down under.
