Take another look, I DID change the subject line, it is called " Wheel size
"!

Greg H.

Yeah, I'm odd that way. ...

Yes you DID change the subject line... and as it was a type of thread drift I can understand it.

BUT the way that works best with all the different methods of reading the forum, would be to NOT use the "reply" button. Start a new message, quoting a little or say a little to provide some connection to the old thread. (Like I did here...)

Mostly it is no biggie...

I would rather have people posting "not quite correctly" than not posting at all!!!

Back to your question:

Just a quick tire/wheel question.....

I have heard about folks switching from the 16.5" wheels to the 16" wheels,
but have not heard of switching to a 17" wheel - just how valid is the
switch to a 17" instead of the 16", and what are the pro's and cons of the
17"?

I have seen 17" wheels that will bolt on our coaches. I have heard of 17" tires that would work, but haven't seen them. I understand that the tires AND wheels are more expensive that the 16" ones.

But JimB says he thinks that things are moving that way.... so maybe, someday, 17 inch will be cheaper than 16 inch.

I would not worry about not being able to get suitable 16 inch tires anytime soon.

Thank you.

I'm already paying an arm and a leg for tires for my pickup ( it cost me
less than $100, and came with over size tires ), I was thinking that I might
actually be able to save some money by buying the larger tires in quantity.

What I am concerned about is tire clearance with 17" wheels and what it
might do to mileage ( or for that matter what they might do in terms of
making effective use of power from the engine ). Also, there is the
problem about tire construction and the GMC that I have read about, but do
not fully understand ( for the last several years I have bought Low Rolling
Resistance tires - yes they cost more, but I have found that they save at
least that much in fuel cost, and I don't know if LRR tires would be
appropriate for the GMC ).

Greg H.

Yeah, I'm odd that way.
