Dan,
I bought two; one for me and one for my daughter. The $499 was about the
lowest price I have seen for a 2k Kipor. Worked on Cecil's coach the last
3 days; got the carb back and installed it Thursday; started the engine and
it ran, except the carb was leaking gas. I figured maybe the gaskets would
swell with gas on them and it would be better the next day. So Friday, I
started it again and it worked, no leaking. Ran the engine to get it hot;
noticed the temp gauge going way up; shut the engine down, could hear the
water boiling in the engine. Checked the water level in the radiator; no
water to speak of. Added 2.5 gallons and could feel water in the top of
the radiator. So started the engine again and noticed the upper radiator
hose was flattening out; like something was sucking on it. Stopped the
engine, the hose swelled back out. Started the engine again, same thing.
I thought, something not right here, so shut it down and went outside to
see if any water was on the floor of my garage; YES, there was. I had
forgot that Cecil had installed a new water heater and it did not have the
engine preheat. Those hoses were just cut and left hanging under the
coach. So today, decided to correct this problem. Drained the radiator
first. Thought I would just turn one "Y" in the hose system around and
just put in a short connector, leaving the engine preheat hoses in place,
but just on top of the engine; would only take minutes to do. Took one
apart and it crumbled in my hands; so decided to replace all the lines as
they were rotten. Put new heater hoses in, eliminating the old water
heater preheat hoses entirely. Poured the water back into the radiator
and started the engine; no leaks, but the radiator water is still low and
didn't have any antifreeze to mix and pour into the radiator. Will do
that either tomorrow or Monday, depending on when I get to Walmart to buy
some antifreeze. Next will be to test the various systems; like the new
water heater, making sure there are no leaks anywhere since Cecil replaced
all the water lines in the coach. The fridge is not running; need to see
if I can get it started; also test the furnace. Hope to get it all
checked out by the end of the year. Debating installed the transfer
switch Cecil has and also the LED clearance lights. The pod on top is
cracked and leaks; probably should pull that off and get rid of it.
Talked with the wife and daughter several hours ago; they are staying at a
small farm taking care of it for the woman owner. She has several small
ponies, chickens, ducks, etc; small stream running thru the property and a
larger one along one side. Lemon, orange and other fruit trees; Rosemary
picked several lemons for fresh lemonade. They really like it there, the
small towns that take them back in time as if they were living in the 50's
(daughter wouldn't know, she wasn't alive then).
Quiet Christmas eve here; no plans to do any Christmas celebrating with
anyone; will work on my coach tomorrow; maybe drop the tanks and start that
process all over again. What have you heard from Teri??

For those that read my not so "private email" to Dan, let me clear up what
I was telling Dan:
Cecil and I picked up his 1977 rear bath Birchaven in Cincinnati in Aug
2007. We brought it back to Winston-Salem, NC and left it in my garage.
He worked on it that next year, replacing all the water lines and
installing a new water heater. In Aug, 2008, he was diagnosed with
stomach cancer, stage 4. From that point on, he was fighting the cancer
and died Jan 2010. I promised his wife I would sell off all his GMC parts
and get his coach ready to sell. Thus, my work on it on and off over the
last 18 months and the sale of many GMC parts to GMC netters. The work
has been slow, since I travel to Oregon every year (twice in 2011 for 5
months) and frustrating (we could not find the keys to the coach -- that is
a story in itself) since I had to discover what all he had torn apart and
left undone (and there was plenty). Anyway, the end is in sight (I hope).
I hope to have Cecil's Birchaven available for sale sometime next year; if
anyone is interested, please email me at jrwheeler7 at gmail.com for
details and pictures.
As for my wife and daughter, they are in New Zealand for 6 weeks of
sightseeing and will return mid January, 2012.

reasons. The wife believes that the generator is pumping fumes into
the coach when we run it (it isn't) so unless we're running down the
road she doesn't want it running. This will keep some (but not all) of
the whining down when dry-camping. The other reason is that GendF (the
bum) will not let me use his little Honda generator when I go to
Quartzsite! So, that's it. Had to have one. Thanks for the link

You will be very happy. I have 2 2000w parallel models and 1 1000w unit. Still experimenting and playing with them but they are very quiet and fuel efficient.

You're going to love it. One thing I found is that when new, they will tend to hunt a bit under low load when the smart throttle is on. I try to break mine in for a few hours under a medium load. I currently have 2 2000's and one 1000 and they all show the same tendencies. I've rebuilt about 4 of these and everything about them appears to be of high quality. I also rebuilt a Honda 1000 and frankly I thought it was a bit less impressive but very similar.

No you can't. One disadvantage of these small inverter generators is that they will not lug down under a large load. The inverter will kick off in overload condition. One reason I have 2 2000W units is so I can run an AC unit more economically and quietly than my Onan. However, that requires the 2 IGP models. I seldomly do that so normally I carry only one unit for most trips.

Just curious, maybe I should start a new thread, but does anyone use the TurboKool that lives in the South West (or other dry climates). I want to get rid of my Onan and they run only 4.5 amps on high power.

I removed my rear AC and installed a TurboKool this summer. The AC was making horrible noises when starting up, though still worked, but like you said, the TK only draws about 5a. I am in wet Portland, but I installed the TK for a trip in Aug to BurningMan. Have to say it worked incredibly well in the desert. Kept the rear bedroom area in the 70's, though this year was exceptionally cool and only got up to about 95 at most outside. And with my 170w of solar panels, I only used the generator to recharge house batteries once. Very happy with the investment.
That said, now that I'm parked back home in the rain, I've discovered that water leaks through the opening. Still working on troubleshooting and finding a solution.
