I've only had my '78 Palm Beach for a couple months. Been working on a few things so haven't had it out. Last weekend, I finally got my exhaust manifold gaskets finished, so I wanted to put some miles on it to see how everything went. My wife and daughters loaded up and we took a drive to look at Christmas lights.
Sitting at a 4 way stop sign, the car to my left had a couple guys around 20. The passenger was leaning against the window kind of napping. When he saw the GMC, he popped up, slapped his buddy on the shoulder, smiled and gave me two big thumbs up! I thought maybe he'd just seen the movie "Stripes" or something.
I told my wife it has been awhile, if ever, since anybody 20 years old thought I was cool.

The last couple of winters, we have spent 3-4 months traveling the southern part of the US. Really had a wonderful time, especially our visits to GMC friends. When not at relatives, friends or rallies, we usually camp in National, State, County or small city parks. Almost without exception, every place we park, someone comes up to us to compliment us on our MH. "What is that thing?" "I've always wanted one of those." My (uncle) had one of those" etc. etc. etc. A lot of thumbs up on the road, and people interested in the GMC when we stop for fuel. Really makes all of the time an $$ that I've put in it, seem like it was all worth it. Just LOVE traveling in it. We leave next week for the south, and I sometimes have trouble sleeping thinking of all we will do with it in the next few months. If any on you are traveling the Gulf shores...Florida to Texas in the next few months, and are interested in meeting up, contact me. If it works out....

It is amazing the interest it generates. Last time we were out, there was a car along side us, with a woman hanging out the window taking pictures of it. The capper was this morning, a couple of Jehova's Witnesses knocked on the door, after politely indicating my non-interest, one woman wanted to know what kind of "van" that was. She said it reminded her of Skooby Doo's vehicle!

I was refueling somewhere in AZ when I heard someone calling out. I walked around to the passenger side and there was a guy behind the wheel in a huge, gorgeous diesel pusher waving me over to his window - he said "You're a genius for owning that thing. They just don't build them like that anymore. Beautiful." I said, "Well, your coach is not too shabby!" and he said "yeah, but do you want my payments? I'd rather have your GMC!"

I too get the toots & thumbs up and people hanging out of the window taking photos with their cell phones but I have always assumed that they were Ohio State University fans and were showing appreciation for the Buckeye motif.
With that in mind it might be stoned if I took it to the Woodward Cruise.

G'day,
You should see the heads turn down here, their are only a few GMC's on the road down here. Every time we stop we always get a people asking, what is it, where can I get one, It's how old?
At Rallys some taller people are dubious to come in but are blowen away at the head height and how much room there is ( my motorhome is longer but less room)
On the road people pass us, then drop back, come passed again, all the time staring and pointing, trying to figure out what it is. Gail says we should put some GMC badges on it to put them out of their misery.

My standard reply to the folks with the (very nice) new pushers at shows, "Yours deprieciated more last year than I paid for mine". Most of them are pros, so the cvost is written off as business expense.
