Just going to toot Dan Gregg's horn a bit here. Got another bunch of LED lights in from Dan, these now complete the coach. I used "puck" lights from Lowes and wired them direct ot 12 volt when we did the renovation. They came with 10 watt halogens. Even after switching to 5 watt halogen still noticable effect on batteries since we have 21 of these things in the coach. Got the LED replacements from Dan and now I can hardly get a amperage draw reading during normal use. Now Joanne can fire up all 6 lights in the bathroom mirror (and leave them on). Dan even supplied two LED replacements for my "bullet" reading lights over the rear bed. As far as color and brightness, they certainly are brighter but also the same "light" color as the halogens. I was worried they were going to have some type of wierd hue but it's the same.
So if you are looking for a substantial way to save electricity while boondocking give Dan a shout.
(this has not been a paid endorsement ...LOL)
Thanks

I changed out about 1/2 of mine with Dan's so I have the advantage of warm incand light when plugged in and LED when on Batt. Also the blend warms up the LED.

I love/hate the them. I have all LEDs as well. But now I added the (2) 6V batteries I think I am going to do the 1/2 LED, and 1/2 Reg thing as well. Since boon docking I think the leds are terrific (little heat/Little Amp draw, but the light they shine is not quit as comforting on my eyes.

Michael,
I know what you mean about the quality of light from LED's. Dan Gregg is very sensitive to this too and offers LED lights that have the right color temperature and light output.
It's nice to take advantage of someone's expertise. He's spent the time to get it right and then offer them to us. I like this.

Larry, Thats really good to hear. The ones I have are rather "blue" and its REALLY tough to see easily at night. Can I buy them online? Maybe I'll get just a few and see. I need some for over my couch, and the rear bedroom most. The LEDs in the bathroom seem to work well. I'm not sure why, maybe just the small area they light up.

Dan definitely knows LED lighting. I have some from the same source as the ones he sells and am planning to upgrade more of my fixtures, from him, in the next year. I actually prefer the color of the light from the LEDs over the fluorescent lights, and the power consumption is next to nothing. These are not cheap, but you get what you pay for, good quality light and voltage regulated LEDs that won't burn out with voltage fluctuations in an automotive application. If they ever give you trouble, they are guaranteed for life.

You can't go wrong with Led's from Jim or Dan but I found some on line at HID-Lights.com that gave me a nice effect that wasn't a blue light. They were 30 led tower bulbs (1156SMD) they came 2 to a package and cost $5.50 a bulb when you purchased 5 packages or more.

I don't know where they are made it didn't say on the package but the manufacturer is GP Thunder. HID-Lighting has a website and they say they warranty what they sell. They are located in Chino California Phone#888 569 9718 it doesn't take long to receive the product so I 'm sure it was shipped from southern California.

I just really want to make sure the LEDs I buy don't have the same "blue" temperature mine do. They are really low light. I think most of them are 32 LED or something, but the light is terrible and to blue. I'd like to have something closer to a incandescent lamps color (temp). I really dislike the blue color.

Wow Jim that would be terrific. However I'll buy some. I just would like to get the ones that have the easiest on the eye light. My eyes are sensitive. I like the advantages to the LEDs but the ones I have are terrible. (purchased from flee bay)

Michael you can't go wrong with Jim's LED's and his warranty is the best around. The ones you have most likely are not the SMD type, I had a couple that weren't and the blue tinge is very irritating.

I have no doubt that Jim has some of the best LED's available. He's a great
supplier !
I'm wondering when the LED lights are going to start coming down in price......
I would need 20......too pricey yet for me to do a 100% conversion.

I just installed a strip of bright LEDs in the refer and hooked them up to
the existing switch. Man, do they ever brighten up the insides when the
door is open. Nancy just loves it.
I'm still trying to get her to see if they work with the door
closed.........
(I knew one of you guys was going to come up with this.)

Just some thought on 'blue/white' LED's.
The color temperature of daylight at noon, is about 5500* Kelvin to 6000*
Kelvin, while the color temperature of light coming from the horizon is
5000* Kelvin and overcast daylight is about 6500* Kelvin. Incandescent
bulbs in comparison run around 2700* Kelvin and an average warm white CFL
runs around 3500* Kelvin.
Cool white colors of 5500* K and higher promotes concentration while warm
white >5000*K tends to promotes relaxation.
Many of the cool white LED's are running 5500* to 6000* K, but there are
some out there that run under 5000* K or in excess of 7000*, and those that
are extreme tend to be a little hard on the eyes.
There are some ways to deal with both ends of the color temperature
extremes, but those on the higher end of the scale tend to be easier to deal
with:
* Use them as indirect lighting - let surrounding objects help modify the
apparent color ( wood tones, off whites, and tans tend to reflect warmer
lighting ).
* Use a diffuser - diffuser's like indirect lighting modify the apparent
color. LED's are a point source of light, and when many of them are used
it can strain the eyes ( think of it, like looking directly into the beams
of many small flashlights ), but a diffuser blends them together and spreads
the light out putting less strain on the eyes.
* If you are making your own LED lamps, wire in a few LED's of a lower
color temperature, like red ( >2200*K ) and yellow ( 2750*-3500* K ), to
drop the over all color temperature of the light coming from the lamp - you
can often splice in a few LED's of another color into commerical LED strips,
as long as they match.
A few random thoughts on the color of light.
The human eye, is most sensitive to the yellow portion of the visible
spectrum - this is why deep red and blue is often used to let people see
what is going on in dark areas, without disturbing their night vision.
This makes both blue and red useful for cockpit lighting at night, but blue
being further from yellow than most commonly available reds, is often more
effective.
6000*K is about as pure white as you can get - any higher and you start
shading to blue and any lower and you start shading to red.
Some people have vision that extends slightly into the upper end of the
realm of ultraviolet and some people's vision extends slightly into the
lower end realm of infrared - again it's not very far and not usually
noticed because even tiny amounts of light in what is considered to be the
visible part of the spectrum tend to overwhelm the slight overlap - so
filters have to be used.
