Hi,

I've looked on a few dump station websites and can find anything nearby.
Does anyone in the long island vicinity know where I can find one ideally somewhere between garden city, queens & Brooklyn.

We are based in Brooklyn, but I'm out at Garden City at the moment.

Thanks!
JP

PS. For those that were following the thread my first alternator belt Installation worked a treat, now for the AC belt!

Isn't there a RV park on the south side of Long Island (at an old airstrip)? They made have one or have information as to where one may be found.

Can't think of the name currently, but I'll try to find it for you.

Many tour bus operators have dump sites--most are just a grate that they back up over and pull the handle.

I was thinking of the Gateway National Recreation Center at Floyd Bennett Field, but in checking their website, they do not provide sewer connections.

They may be able to tell you of dump sites nearby. They do say they have 6 RV stalls.

Also, Liberty Island RV Park in New Jersey should have some dumping facilities.

I don't think Cousin Eddie (from Christmas Vacation) would have had a problem finding a spot to dump!

G'day,

George is correct, they have a dump station. Helen and I stayed there several years ago.

Here's a link to their website:

http://www.libertyharborrv.com/

However, they may not allow non guests to dump, give them a call to check.

By the way I just called the Holland Tunnel Communications Center and they advised that you CAN NOT take any LPG through the tunnel.

PERIOD END OF STORY!

Therefore brochure on the Port Authority Website is INCORRECT!

http://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/pdf/red-book.pdf

I have sent them an email suggesting that they revise this brochure!

Regards,
Rob M.

Garden City was not too far from one facility I know of, Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage, Long Island. One source said open year round, another said through October. I can check tomorrow.

Thanks, that one would cost me $39 GWB toll + aprox $39 gas to detour up the hudson and down again (no LPG allowed thru the tunnels) and no don't a hefty fee to use it!

The ThermaSan is NOT a macerator!

It is a system that feeds the contents of the black tank into the exhaust system while you're driving down the road and
"incinerates" it.

Here's a link to bdub's website where you can find information about it and how it works.

http://www.bdub.net/oddsnends.html

Scroll down until you come to it.

JP,

A macerator is a device that is plumbed in parallel to a 3" dump line on a RV. It has a chopper blade that "macerates" (grinds up)
the poop and a pump that pumps it out through a hose that is around 1 to 1 1/2" (outside diameter) that you can stick into any drain
that it will fit.

Here's a picture of the one on my GMC in the USA:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=28382

It's the device with the blue hose connected to it. As noted in the blurb under the picture that hose is 17 feet long and easily
reaches whatever I want to dump into.

Rob M.

Good information Tim - There is nothing like a native guide.

I think contacting marinas is the way to go. They may be a little hesitant as a boat's pump out is a very different animal than an RV dump, but they can accommodate it if they are willing to think a little.

But, they may also have a gravity dump to deal with the number of small boats that have cassette or porta-potti type MSD (Marine Sanitation Device). It has been a while since I traveled by small boat in the area.

JP,

If the Thermasan has been enabled, you should have seen the indicator flashing already. It may not even be turned on.

If the Thermasan still works, it will pump liquid waste from the top 2/3~3/4 of the black tank into the engine exhaust flame. (A great way to eliminate tailgaters.) It will only start pumping when the coach has been at road load for several minutes.

If you are going to stay with the coach much longer, it would be worth your while to replace the tube in the little peristaltic (pushes a squeezed tube) pump as they crack and ruin the pump. If it doesn't run when it should, that is usually simple to trouble shoot.

Even if it is working, you will still need to periodically dump the black tank as the "Waste Destruction" system just can't handle everything. Paper is its nemesis.

Think of it as a high speed blender for the black water tank that chops
everything up into little tiny pieces to reduce/prevent clogs from
everything over a certain size.
