John, often that red X is from your own browser, IE or whatever telling you that your security settings won't allow this potentialy dangerous type of file. Should be a window or a spot at the top of the page to click to allow it to load.

I've encountered that on and off for decades and have never really found what causes that. Without changing any settings, it seems to be sporadic. Google solutions on the causes have not helped.

Your not doing anything wrong. Your security settings are set high, a good idea. You should be able to find an option on the screen to allow it to open for this occurence. Or change security settings in control panel.

This one works OK:
http://www.bdub.net/wirediagrams/75-76-120vac-living-area.gif
The one right below it does not:
http://www.bdub.net/wirediagrams/75-76-12vdc-living-area.gif

The GIF must either be missing from that location or corrupted.

Ken,

I see the same problem Downunder.

I went to bdub's website and started at the top of the list and more of them did the same thing.

I read:

MS Internet Explorer will not open a graphics file over a certain size. Right click the links, create a directory to keep them in,
then choose to save them to disk (or Save Target As). Put them all in the same directory for convenience.

I followed those instructions and every one that wouldn't open using IE 8 was saved to a folder on my PC and I was then able to open
them using MS Office Picture Manager.

Regards,
Rob M.

I just opened it with Windows Picture and Fax viewer. I do not even have Windows Internet explorer installed to try it.

Send him the files he needs and let him try double clicking on them. Hopefully he has Window Picture and Fax Viewer and it will open.

Ah HA!

That was it, sorry for the panic folks. IE is my default browser because
of work and I didn't see that banner at the top (actually the whole page
has a different layout than earlier today!?).

Anyway, I can see the GIFs in Firefox.

Thanks.
