Actually this is very doable using some of the technology being implemented in the marine environment.

Look into MFD (multi function displays) and NMEA 2000. It is getting to be almost affordable. Give it another year and you can probably use an I-pad or touch tablet as your dash. You could even have a second remote display.

Subject: [GMCnet] New dash
To: <gmclist@temp.gmcnet.org>

Okay, was talking about my concept of a simple dash design with Greg Birch (shameless name drop) at the GMC of Western states rally this past weekend when he offered up an idea which if possible I would like to implement in my new dash. We were discussing instrumentation and a simple flat dash panel and I mentioned that I planned on installing individual gauges in bullet pods on the dash. The problem I forsaw was laying them out so they were easily visible and having room for added instrumentation as the need came up. Greg suggested some form of touch screen where the operator could scroll through different gauge readings and even switch to a monitor for back up camera and movie watching. When not in use(camping or parked) the display could be folded closed like a lap top computer. So my questions are these.

1. Is such a touch screen currently available?

2. Is there a way to interface with a touch screen with the speedo/tach/etc?

3. If so, who do I contact?

Thanks,
