Just in case you didn't know...

Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858. It was originally settled by a lost group of Norwegians seeking refuge from the searing heat of Wisconsin's winters.

Minnesota gets it's name from the Sioux Indian word "mah-nee-soo-tah," meaning, No, really... "They eat fish soaked in lye."

The state song of Minnesota is "Someday the Vikings will... Aw, never mind."

The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, covers 9.5 million square feet and has enough space to hold 185,000 idiot teenagers yapping away on cell phones.

Madison, Minnesota, is known as "the lutefisk capital of the world." Avoid this city at all costs.

Downtown Minneapolis has an enclosed skyway system covering 52 blocks, allowing people to live, work, eat, and sleep without ever going outside. The only downside to this is that a Norwegian occasionally turns up missing.

Cartoonist Charles M. Shultz was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up in St. Paul. He was the only artist to accurately depict the perfectly circular heads of Minnesota natives.

The Hormel Company of Austin, Minnesota, produces 6 million cans of Spam a year, even though no one actually eats it. Spam is a prized food in Japan & Hawaii--Spam sushi!!

Minnesota license plates are blue & white and contain the phrase "Blizzards on the 4th of July - you get used to it."

Frank C. Mars, founder of the Mars Candy Company, was born in Newport, Minnesota. His 3 Musketeers candy bar originally contained three bars in one wrapper, each filled with a different flavor of nougat - chocolate, Spam and lutefisk.

Tonka trucks continue to be manufactured in Minnetonka, Minnesota, despite the thousands of GI Joe dolls killed by them annually in rollover accidents. No airbags, no seat belts. These things are deathtraps, I tell ya!

Author Laura Ingalls Wilder was raised at Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and was famous for writing the "Little House" series of books, as well as inventing the "Spam diet" which consists of looking at a plate of Spam until you lose your appetite. Much like the "lutefisk diet."

The snowmobile was invented in Roseau, Minnesota, so as to allow families a means of attending 4th of July picnics.

Minnesotans are almost indistinguishable from Wisconsinites. The only way to tell them apart is to ask if they voted for Mondale in '84.

Now, COLD is a relative thing

65º
Arizonans turn on the heat.
People in Minnesota plant gardens.

60º
Californians shiver uncontrollably.
People in Minnesota sunbathe.

50º
Italian & English cars won't start.
People in Minnesota drive with the windows down..

40º
Georgians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats.
People in Minnesota throw on a flannel shirt.

35º
New York landlords finally turn up the heat.
People in Minnesota have the last cookout before it gets cold.

20º
People in Miami all die.
Minnesotans close their windows.

Californians fly away to Mexico.
People in Minnesota get out their winter coats.

10º below zero:
Hollywood disintegrates.
The Girl Scouts in Minnesota are selling cookies door to door.

20º below zero:
Washington DC runs out of hot air. (Ya think? Nah.).
People in Minnesota let their dogs sleep indoors.

"Mac" MacDonald... That sounds like a name from somewhere in the British Isles... an area of the world that was once almost totally occupied by the Norwegian Vikings. Therefore, I find it disturbing (as a first generation Norwegian/American) that a fellow Norwegian would dis his ancestors in such a manner. However, being a first generation Norwegian/American, born in Wisconsin and lived most of his life in Wisconsin or Minnesota, I would have to say most of what you say is... true.

Well, "Yimmy," I am mostly of Scottish descent, at five eighths
(125 proof, if you wish), 1/8 English, and 1/4 Swedish with mother's
dad coming to the USA around the turn from 19th to 20th centuries.

And coming originally from upstate NY in the snowbelt between Erie
and Buffalo, I am well acquainted with most of that stuff.

And I sure as hell don't eat lutefisk. Once was quite enough. I think
it may be some sort of Lutheran punishment for ever doing something
that was actually fun!

I was once in LA in January, driving up the 405 with the window down and listening to talk radio. The host was talking with a guy in Minneapolis. "How cold is it up there" the host asked? The guy in Minneapolis told about a recent football game. "Well", he said, "during half time many went into the beer cooler to warm up".

Alaskans got Reindeer Sausage. I should have listened to the waitress's

I don't like the part about the Spam. Each of the Hormel plants uses
250,000 lbs of pork DAILY to mfr Spam. Each plant uses 45 miles of can
labels per day. It is wonderful stuff.
All the rest, however, is true.

Then there's poutine.
Good artery clogging goodness.
Poutine is Acadian slang for mushy mess and is best described as a heart attack in a bowl.

I don't know about Minnesota but yesterday Santa Fe's low was 0 and
our high was 23 degrees. The sun was out but it didn't help much.

Last night we got another 6" of snow on top of the 4" we got yesterday

We are leaving for Colorado in ten days tp visit our Colorado house
for the Christmas holiday and to warm up some.

We hope to complete our move by Feburary
