I know somewhere in the last couple of weeks, someone had a material list
and directions to build ramps to raise the GMC....I can't find that thread!
Can you help direct me...I'd like to head to the building supply store in
the morning.
Thanks

Mike,

Since you use GMail, why don't you just go to the top of the page, type in
"ramp" and get a list of all the threads ever posted which contain the word
"ramp". Beats trying to count gears. :-)

As often happens in conversation, the ramp discussion came from the pictures in the discussion of weather covers. Several links in the following thread lead to the both rear ramps and the 2x jack stands on front.

That is what I have only in black. They say 12,000 pounds on them. Considering the front weighs about 4,000, I figure I'm within their capacity.

I thought I'd revive this thread I read a few weeks back to give some feedback. I'm a total newbie here....bought a '78 Palm Beach in October. I needed to drop the tanks and replace fuel lines due to leaking gas when the tanks were filled.

I built the ramps seen here http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=5006
These things are solid - I used all treated wood (so they are heavy as all get out), and made a shorter set for the front too. They really raise things up to a nice working height with plenty of room for working, using tools and crawling around. Effortless raising compared to jacking. Well worth the time it took to make them. Thanks to Kelvin for the nice drawing. Works nice for my situation.

Good idea to also use, Jack Hooks, or jack stands, with the ramps.

Gene,

I like your ramps even better! Are they individual boards that you stack up? They sure would be easier to lug around!

Never mind, I just spotted the little wheel under the left end.

Thanks Mike. On a side note, I filled up with gas and no more leaks. Tanks, screens and senders were in good shape inside, but I painted the exteriors while I had them down.
Also, I added the Onan prime switch to my generator control panel. This is a must do, and easy too. Between that and the new fuel lines the gen fires right up now.

So aside from all the skin I lost from banging knuckles, etc... during the whole process I had pretty good Christmas break. Smile

I have a set of Rhino Ramps too.

I'm always a bit nervous when driving up on them that I will go over the far side (wheel stop is not that high on them!).

I'm not sure that I'd put 12,000 lbs on them... I'm a bit nervous with the 4,000 of the GMC, but I always put stands under too.

They were on sale at TSC for about $30.00 if I recall.

I need to make of set of wooden rear ramps.
