The trailer will run the original electro level air ride system and crontrol will now be located at the door, A converter will also be intalled just in front of the inner fender charging the trailer battery, and running the air system, 6 12 volt roof light two outer lights roof vent fans and a stereo, The unit will also plug in to 110 which will run 5 wall plugs, two 8 foot fluorescent lights all run off a 6 fuse panel installed on the other inner fender, All hidden but accessible.
These updates have been added because all compnents are already in the unit and only had to be re-routed
Any more thoughts on what a GMC Race Trailer should have,

Next Step remove complete front clip then cut the body, Then install front clip and build the tongue.

I love that one but I am looking for the more traditional look as though the Factory might have built it. plus proper tongue wieght and proper geometry.

That will be the interesting issue. The wheels are pretty far back on the GMC so tongue weight could be an issue. On the other hand, the interplay between the front and rear bogies may help relieve some of that. Tongue weights from 8 to 15% are usually OK.

I think my measurements should make it quite balanced as trailers go, I will be cutting it at 18 foot mark from the rear, That should give it the proper length and balance that will make the toungue wieght right and the trailer should pull empty or loaded well.

I could definitely be interested in doing something like that. If the loads are not quite were you want them you can always tweek the tongue length.

Since you are doing body work for the cap anyway, and have the interior
stripped, it would seem relatively easy to slide the bogies forward on the
frame to proper balance... move the fender liners forward, etc.

Much easier to just cut the trailer a little shorter as the length is not the issue and moving the bogies would mean moving the the door?

The Shipping company lost my shipment, Think about it how do you misplace the Back of GMC Motohome, Had to Dig my race trailer out from the track of course snowed in with no tracks in or out, One trailer wheel flat and all I had was a Bike pump! At least I had that.
Get to the trucking company and they come out with a little box on a pallet, Its 10 times bigger then that! I showed them a picture and now they are on the search, Fun day so far.
If anyone sees the back of a Motorhome on a crate out there, Im sure it will be mine, I can't amagine there are many of those traveling around the country right now, Well maybe conected to the rest of a GMC Motorhome.

Harry wrote on Fri, 09 December 2011 13:22 | I read somewhere that the centreline of the wheels should be behind the centreline of the trailer by 1 inch for every foot of trailer.
My 16 foot car trailer is just that.

Many companies are close to that. We run less than that to avoid excessive tongue loads. Car trailers are a bit of an oddball because of what is on them and the weight distribution of the load.

As I understand it that's the length of just the trailer not the tongue is that right?
Then I have to figure out proper length of the tongue as I understand that it's v runners are 75% of the width of the trailer?

From a stability standpoint, the longer the tongue the better. The effective tongue length is what matters and that is from the axle(s) centerline to the coupler. At a very minimum it should be long enough so that if you do get it sideways, it should miss the width of the car in order to reduce damage. If your tongue weight is too high (over 15% of loaded trailer weight) you can lengthen the tongue accordingly. The downside to extending the tongue is that it makes it easier to scrub curbs and gas station islands when turning. A typical 12ft (cargo area) trailer would have an effective tongue length of 145-150"". A car hauler would be closer to 160""
